ICBL Announces Schedule

INDEPENDENT COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE ANNOUNCES SEASON SCHEDULE

 

ALBANY/AMSTERDAM/GLENS FALLS – The Independent Collegiate Baseball League (ICBL) announces its 2020 season schedule which begins Monday, July 6^th with all four teams opening at two locations.

 

The Amsterdam Mohawks will host the Albany Dutch at Shuttleworth Park in Amsterdam, first pitch at 5 pm, while the Glens Falls Independents will host the Albany Athletics at East Field in Glens Falls, first pitch at 5:30 pm. Both matchups are doubleheaders.

The season continues Wednesday, July 8^th and concludes the week of August 13^th with all four teams aiming to complete a 30-game season. Game days are all doubleheader matchups on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with the exception of July 27^th and August 3^rd in which the Athletics and Mohawks will play just a single game to avoid four doubleheaders in one week and keep the schedule balanced. Prior to the season, all teams will conduct an official team practice, in groups of 10 or less, between July 1-3 with the Mohawks, Athletics and Dutch all at Shuttleworth and the Independents at East Field.

 

Per state guidance, the ICBL will allow participating players up to two family members per game in attendance.  Both ICBL venues will offer sit-down outdoor dining options as well, in accordance with county health regulations. Reservations for a limited number of tables at Shuttleworth Park will be open starting July 1^st using an online method for parties of 2-6 people.  Menu and seating details will also be provided when the dining web site is released.  East Field, meanwhile, is currently in the final stages of developing its dining options.

 

“We are working closely with the City of Amsterdam and the County Health Department to ensure we’re following rules and protocols for family members of players and diners attending games this summer,” said Brian Spagnola, General Manager of the Mohawks. “Shuttleworth has a significant footprint to allow us to social distance families and those who would like to have dinner at the ballpark.”

 

“East Field is a great place to enjoy dinner and a ballgame,” said Ben Bernard, General Manager of the Independents.  “We are hopeful to get our dining program approved and offer it to spectators.”

The ICBL intends to put a significant focus on player safety and health by implementing numerous protocols this season including a certified athletic trainer at every game, sanitized baseballs during games, sanitized dugouts after every game, players being required to bring their own equipment (bats, helmets, gloves), and players spread out throughout the dugouts, bullpens and stands during games.

 

The ICBL is the only collegiate-level league in the Greater Capital Region to operate this summer after the cancellations of several other local baseball leagues. Rosters have been recruited by each team and are comprised of the most talented locally based players.  Nick Davey will manage the Dutch, Joe Altieri will manage the Athletics, Keith Griffin will manage the Mohawks, and Steve St. Claire will manage the Independents.
