A few of the many former Mohawks in professional baseball

Hunter Pence
San Francisco Giants

Hunter Pence played for the Mohawks in 2002 under Dave Fields. He attended Texas-Arlington and was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2004 draft by the Houston Astros. Hunter made his major league debut for the Astros in April of 2007 and hit .322 with 17 home runs, 30 doubles, 9 triples and 69 RBI that season. He finished third in the rookie of the year vote behind Ryan Braun and Troy Tulowizki. Hunter is a 3-time all-star; making the National League team in 2009, 2011 and 2014. In 2011 the Astros traded Pence to the Phillies and in 2012 he was traded to the Giants. He is now retired but in his time in San Francisco he helped lead the Giants to World Series victories in 2012 and 2014.

Andrew Saalfrank
Arizona Diamondbacks

Andrew Saalfrank came to the Mohawks in 2017 from Indiana University. He went 7-0 in 9 starts with a 3.78 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched. The Diamondbacks selected him in the 6th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. The 2023 season was Saalfrank's breakout year as he started the season in Double-A and finished it in the World Series with the Diamondbacks. After a stellar season in Double-A and Triple-A, the Diamondbacks called him up to make his Major League debut on September 5th against the Colorado Rockies. He made 10 appearences to close out the season and did not allow a run. He then joined the Diamondbacks for their 2023 post-season run and pitched in 11 games, including 3 appearences in the 2023 World Series.

Luke Maile
Cincinnati Reds

Luke played for the Mohawks in 2010 and 2011 under Coach Keith Griffin while attending the University of Kentucky. He was an 8th round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Rays in the 2012 draft. He was an All-PGCBL performer in 2011 after hitting a then league record 8 home runs on the season. He did that while only playing for the Mohawks from July 4 on. As the cleanup hitter at UK, Luke was named All-SEC catcher after hitting 16 home runs his junior season. He was the first player in the Rays 2012 draft class to reach the Major Leagues. In 2017 the Toronto Blue Jays claimed Maile off waivers from the Rays and he played 3 seasons with the Blue Jays. In 2020, Luke signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates, in 2021 he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers, in 2022 he signed with the Cleveland Guardians and made his first postseason appearence as the Guardians won the AL Central and in 2023 Luke signed with the Cincinnati Reds.

Matt Gage
Los Angeles Dodgers

A local player, Matt Gage graudated from Broadalbin-Perth in 2011 and joined the Mohawks for their post-season run that year. In 2012, Gage returned to the Mohawks following his freshman season at Siena. The Giants selected Gage in the 10th round of the 2014 MLB Draft and he made it up to Triple-A before being released in 2018. Gage then bounced around between the Mets, the Rockies, the Mexican League and Indy ball before signing with the Blue Jays for the 2022 season. On June 6, 2022, Gage made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays. In 2023, Gage signed with the Houston Astros and split time between the Majors and Triple-A. The New York Yankees picked Gage up off waivers in 2024 and traded him to the Los Angles Dodgers.

Mark Leiter Jr.
Chicago Cubs

Leiter pitched for the Mohawks in 2011 and 2012 from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. In 2011, Mark set the Mohawks single season strikeout record with 74. In 2012, he began the summer in the NECBL and returned to the Mohawks in late June. He's the Mohawks all-time leader in strikeouts with 127 and recorded 13 in his last game which was a conmplete game to get the Mohawks into the championship series. In 2013 the Phillies, the team Mark's father pitched for, drafted him in the 22nd round. He made his Major League debut with the Phillies on April 28, 2017 against the Dodgers. THe Blue Jays claimed Mark off waivers in 2018. He then pitched in the minors with the Diamondbacks and Tigers. Leiter signed with the Cubs for the 2022 season and he developed into a key piece of the Cubs bullpen.

Joe LaSorsa
Washington Nationals

Joe LaSorsa pitched for the Mohawks in 2017 from St. John's University. He was selected in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. LaSorsa made a name for himself in the 2023 World Baseball Classic as he struck out established MLB hitters in big situations for Team Italy and would roar off the mound in celebration. On May 29, 2023, LaSorsa made his Major League debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs. He pitched in one more game for the Rays before being claimed off waivers by the Washington Nationals, where he pitched the remainder of the 2023 season.

Tim Herrin
Cleveland Guardians

Left-handed pitcher Tim Herrin from Indiana University played for the Mohawks championship team in 2016. He was drafted in the 29th Round by Cleveland in 2018 and made the Guardians Opening Day roster in 2023. He made history in his Major League debut on April 2, 2023 as he was the 1st pitcher since 1893 (when the mound was moved to its current distance) to face 4+ batters in his MLB debut and strike them all out as he set down all 4 Mariners batters he faced.

Zach Logue
Atlanta Braves

Zach Logue pitched for the Mohawks in 2015 as a freshmen from the University of Kentucky. He was named co-PGCBL Pitcher of the Year as he went 7-0 in the regular season and 1-0 in the playoffs. The Toronto Blue Jays drafted Louge in the 9th Round of the 2017 MLB Draft and advanced to Triple-A in the Blue Jays organization. Just before the 2022 season, the Blue Jays made a blockbuster trade with the Oakland A’s as he was one of 4 prospects traded to the A’s in exchange for All-Star third basemen Matt Chapman. On April 19, 2022 Logue made his Major Leage debut with the Oakland A's. The Detroit Tigers claimed Logue off waivers for the 2023 season and he signed with the Atlanta Braves for the 2024 season.

Trey Wingenter
Detroit Tigers

Trey played for the Mohawks in 2013 under Coach Keith Griffin. He attended Auburn University where he was drafted in the 17th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. Trey helped lead the Mohawks to the 2013 PGCBL Championship. He threw 47 innings that summer and had 55 strikeouts and only 19 walks with a 3.04 ERA. He quickly went through the Padres system as a relief pitcher and features a fastball that tops 100 mph. He made his Major League debut in August 2018.

John Nogowski
Washington Nationals

John Nogowski (Florida State) played for the Mohawks in 2013. He hit .365, was named the PGCBL Player of the Year and lead the Mohawks to a PGCBL title. He was drafted in the 34th round by the Oakland A's in 2014 and made his Major League debut with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2020. He had a memorable 2021 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Following the 2021 season John signed with the San Francisco Giants but was selected in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft by the Atlanta Braves in December.

Chandler Shepherd
Minnesota Twins

Chandler pitched for the Mohawks in 2012 and was named the PGCBL Pitcher of the Year. The Kentucky right-hander went 7-0 in the regular season with a 1.31 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 55 innings. In the playoffs, he went 2-0 and won the championship clinching game over the Glens Falls Golden Eagles. Chandler was drafted by the Red Sox in the 13th round of the 2014 draft. In 2019, the Orioles claimed Shepherd off waivers and he made his major league debut on August 13 against the Yankees, where he recorded his first career strikeout against Aaron Judge.

Cord Phelps

Cord played for the Mohawks in 2006 while attending Stanford University. The California native had breakout years for the Cardinals in 2007 and 2008, leading them to the College World Series and hitting .355 with 16 home runs in his junior year. He was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2008 draft by the Indians and made his way quickly to the Major Leagues after tearing up AA, AAA and the Arizona Fall Leagues.

Logan Darnell
Minnesota Twins

A University of Kentucky pitcher, Logan played for the Mohawks in 2008. He was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 6th round of the 2010 MLB draft. He made his debut for the Twins on May 6, 2014 against the Cleveland Indians by pitching 3 perfect innnings.

Glen Barker

Glen played for the Mohawks in 1991 for Brian Spagnola. A four year starter at The College of Saint Rose, Glen was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 11th round of the 1993 draft. He played minor league baseball for six seasons until he made the Houston Astros major league roster in 1999. He remained with the Astros until 2002 and played in 235 games in three seasons. Glen participated as a member of the Astros playoff roster in 1999, 2000, and 2001. After spending years as director of pacific rim scouting for Houston Astros, he was named the San 0Diego Padres minor league coordinator of outfield and baserunning.

Matt Quatraro

Matt played for the Mohawks in 1993 for Brian Spagnola. He attended Old Dominion University from 1993 to 1996 before being drafted in the 8th round of the 1996 draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Matt, a catcher, made it to AAA ball before being released in 2003. After serving as the head coach for many seasons for the Devil Rays minor league affiliates, he became the Director of Minor League Hitting for the entire Rays organization. In 2014 he became the Assistant Hitting Coach for the Cleveland Indians at the Major League level.

Valentino Pascucci

Val played for the Mohawks in 1997 for Tom Fleenor. He was drafted out of the University of Oklahoma in the 15th round of the 1999 draft by the Montreal Expos. Since joining the Expos minor league teams, Valentino has had his way with minor league pitching. He hit 41 home runs in his first three seasons of minor league baseball and hit an amazing 27 home runs in 2002 year playing for class AA Harrsiburg and another 27 more in 2004 playing for AAA Edmonton. In 2011, he was moved up and down in the NY Mets system between the Major Leagues and AAA ball.

Brendan Harris

Brendan, a utility infielder, attended William and Mary College and was drafted in the 5th round of the 2001 draft by the Chicago Cubs. He played for the Mohawks in 1999 for Dennis Healy. He was a career .300 hitter in the minor leagues and in June of 2004 made his major league debut with the Chicago Cubs. He was later traded to the Montreal Expos as part of the Nomar Garciaparra trade and was a member of the Cincinnati Reds in 2006. Harris broke through in 2007 and was the everyday shortstop for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays where he had a breakout year. After spending a few years as a starter for the Minnesota Twins, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for the 2011 season. He is now a scout in the Los Angeles Angels organization.

Tim Christman

Tim played for the Mohawks in 1994 under Ken Hodge. A Siena College graduate, Tim was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 11th round of the 1996 draft. Tim made an appearance for the Rockies Major League club in the 2001 season.

Justin Foscue
Texas Rangers

Justin Foscue was a late arrival to the Mohawks in 2018 as he was with Mississippi State in the College World Series before being eliminated in the semi-finals. He hit .304 for the Mohawks, but his work ethic left a lasting mark on the team for years to come as he was the first player to stay for several hours after the game to take extra batting practice. In 2020, Foscue became the Mohawks first 1st round draft pick as he was selected 14th overall by the Texas Rangers.

Matt Shaw
Chicago Cubs

A member of the Mohawks in 2021 from the University of Maryland, Shaw primarily played centerfield and second base while batting .369 with 9 home runs, 12 doubles and 28 RBI. In 2022 he was named MVP of the Cape Cod League and in 2023 became the Mohawks highest ever draft pick as the Cubs selected him in the first round with the 13th overall pick. Shaw skyrocketed through the Cubs system and finished the 2023 season in Double-A where he was managed by former Mohawk Kevin Graber and won the Championship with the Tennessee Smokies.
