Matt Gorski became the 20th former Mohawk to reach the Majors and the second to make his debut in 2025.

Coming from Indiana as a freshman in the summer of 2017, Gorski hit .347 in 23 games with 4 doubles, 2 triples, 12 RBI and 9 stolen bases. However, his summer was cut short with a wrist injury in mid-July.

The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Gorski in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft with the 57th overall pick, becoming Indiana's highest draft pick since Kyle Schwarber went 4th overall in 2014. 

Being known for his power, Gorski has hit 20+ home runs in each of the last 3 years in the Pirates system and has 90 total minor league home runs. He homered in his High-A debut in his first game with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in 2021 and homered again in his first game with the Altoona Curve in 2022 for his Double-A debut.

This spring Gorski put his name on the Pirates radar as he homered twice with 6 RBI in his first spring training game this year.

In making his MLB debut against the Angels on April 24th it should come as no surprise that he homered in his first at-bat off Tyler Anderson. The 434-foot home run had an exit velocity of 115.2 miles per hour which was tied for the highest ever recorded in the Statcast era for a debut home run.

With all these home runs it's ironic that Gorski did not homer during his summer in Amsterdam. Gorski is the second Mohawk to debut this season as 2021 Mohawk Matt Shaw debuted with the Cubs in March.
