Mohawks beat Dutchmen in 11 innings, 11-10

The Amsterdam Mohawks took down the Albany Dutchmen by a score of 11-10 in 11 innings on Tuesday night in Amsterdam.

The Mohawks took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With runners on first and third, Brett Coker stole second and Bryce Eblin raced home on a delayed steal, beating the throw back to the plate. Robbie Armitage followed with an RBI single to left, which allowed Brett Coker to score from second.

In the bottom of the second, Jake Reinisch led off the inning with a double and would later score on a wild pitch. Bryce Eblin followed with a sac-fly to center to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the third, Jackson Phinney reached on an error which allowed CJ Funk to score, making it 5-0 Mohawks. 

Mohawks starter Cooper Barnum pitched 3 scoreless innings, but after getting into trouble, the Mohawks went to the pen in the fourth inning. That’s when the Albany Dutchmen started to gain some momentum. Logan Beard hit an RBI double sending catcher, Adam Zebrowski home to make it 5-1. After loading the bases Carter Frederick was replaced by Isaac Brown who walked the next 2 batters making it 5-3 before finding his command and striking out the next 2 batters to end the inning. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Matt Shaw hit a 2-run home run and Keith Jones hit a bases loaded single to drive CJ Funk home to make it 8-3. 

The Dutchmen scored a pair of runs in the seventh as Logan Beard brought home Tom Kretzler with a groundout and Kyle Vinci hit a double to score Adam Zebrowski to make it 8-5.

In the eighth, with 2 on, 2 out and the tying run at the plate, the Mohawks turned to Matt Gonzales who got the strikeout to end the inning. Gonzales came back out for the ninth and with 2 outs, Isaac Humphrey unloaded a game-tying 3-run home run to make it 8-8 and sending the game to extra innings.

In the tenth inning Ryan McGee sent the runner placed on second home with a double to make in 9-8, but the Mohawks tied it in the bottom of the tenth as Brett Young was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

In the eleventh, Albany retook the lead as Adam Zebrowski doubled to put the Dutchmen up 10-9.

Again, the Mohawks answered back. Matt Shaw worked a walk and CJ Funk, trying to advance the runners dropped a bunt down, the Dutchmen went for the lead runner at third, but to no avail. Robbie Armitage then walked with the bases loaded to force in Brett Coker with the tying run. Kai Roberts came up next and hit a grounder that was fielded by first basemen Kyle Vinci, he unleashed a wild throw that could not be fielded by the catcher and Matt Shaw came home with the winning run to cap off an 11-10 game.

Brendan Disonell got the win on the mound, improving to 2-0. The Mohawks have now won 6 in a row, improving to 10-2. Michael DiMartino was hit with the loss for the Dutchmen as they fell to 3-8. 

The Mohawks travel to Utica tomorrow night face the Blue Sox at Murnane Field.
