Mohawks Win 8th Straight, Defeat Outlaws 12-6

The Mohawks won their 8th game in a row as they defeated the Oneonta Outlaws 12-6 at Damaschke Field.

Amsterdam took a 2-0 lead in the second as Robbie Armitage (Marist) hit an RBI double to drive in Matt Shaw (Maryland) and scored on a Slate Alford (Mississippi State) ground out.

Oneonta took the lead in the third inning as they scored 4 runs off Mohawks starter Shane Harris (Evansville). Harris issued leadoff walks to Henry Delinski (Emory) and Keoni Coloma (St. Mary’s) and AJ Giach (Yale) made Harris pay for it as he drove in both runs and tied the game with a double. Ryan Weiss (Oswego) gave the Outlaws the lead as Giach scored on an RBI ground out and Jacob Hand (WPI) added another run as he drove in Keaton Mark (Heidelberg) with a single to put the Outlaws up 4-2.  

The Mohawks got a run back in the fourth on a Stone Miyao (Hawaii) double that scored Robbie Armitage to cut the Outlaws lead to 4-3.

Amsterdam took the lead back in the fifth as Kai Roberts scored on a wild pitch to tie the game and CJ Funk scored after an error at first to go up 5-4.

The Mohawks scored 2 more in the sixth as Stone Miyao drove in Slate Alford and Kai Roberts hit a sac-fly to score Jackson Phinney to take a 7-4 lead.

Oneonta scored a pair of runs in the seventh to cut the Mohawks lead to 7-6 as Keaton Mark hit a 2-run double.

In the eighth, Brett Young hit a 2-run stand up triple and scored on a Kai Roberts sac-fly to make in 10-6 and in the ninth, Robbie Armitage hit another RBI double and scored on a Keith Jones single for the Mohawks 12th run.

Ben Adams (St. John’s) was the winning pitcher improving to 2-0. He pitched 2 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts. Shane Harris started and went the first 3 innings. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 1 strikeout. Gavin Stellpflug (Maryland) went 1.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 1 hit with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Brian Yetter (Marist) went 1.2 innings allowing 1 hit and 4 walks with 1 strikeout and Matt Gonzales pitched a scoreless ninth with 1 walk to end the game.

Will Jones (Northeastern) took the loss for Oneonta to fall to 0-1. He pitched 3 innings in relief of starter Marcus Cashman (Niagara) and gave up 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and 3 walks with 5 strikeouts. Cashman gave up 2 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

The Mohawks return home tomorrow night to face the Glens Falls Dragons at 6:35.
