Outlaws Shutdown Mohawks, 5-3

Amsterdam, NY - The Oneonta Outlaws took down the Mohawks by a score of 5-3 in Amsterdam on Friday night. Mathew Dubois (Saint Peter’s University) got the win for the Outlaws, and Nick Smith (University of Evansville) is hit with the loss for the Mohawks.  

The Outlaws took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first with Carson Swank (Yale University) three run homer. The game remained 3-0 until the top of the sixth, when Henry Pelinski (Emory University) hit an RBI groundout to get the fourth run.
 
In the bottom of the sixth the Mohawks tried to make a comeback as Brett Young led off the inning with a double and scored on a Bryce Eblin (Alabama University) groundout for the first run to make it 4-1.  
 
In the top of the seventh Keoni Coloma (Saint Mary’s College) hits an RBI single making the score 5-1.
 
In the bottom of the ninth the Mohawks tried to even the score with Riley Langerman (University of Maryland) hitting an RBI triple to get a run in to make the score 5-2. Langerman was on third, and Brett Young (Siena College) was in the batter’s box, Langerman came home on a wild pitch to make the score 5-3. As the Mohawks were down to their last out they could not catch up to the Outlaws.
 
The Outlaws improved to 6-14 as Matthew Dubois (2-2) picked up the win. Dubois held the Mohawks to 1 run and 4 hits with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts over 6 innings. Nick Smith (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season as the Mohawks fell to 19-5. Smith gave up 4 runs on 4 hits with 1 walk and 8 strikeouts in 5.2 innings. After surrendering the home run in the first inning, Smith found his groove and retired 9 in a row, but the Mohawks offence was unable to pick him up.
 
The Mohawks travel to East Field on Saturday night to play the Glens Falls Dragons at 7:00.
