Mohawks Score Twice in 9th, Defeat Stallions 6-4

Box Score

SAUGERTIES, N.Y. – The Stallions starting pitcher, Bryce Reimer (Bucknell), threw 4 innings of 2-run ball on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts on the night. On the other end, Amsterdam’s starter, Ian Cooke (Uconn), tossed 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, striking out seven without a walk.

In the top of the second inning, Amsterdam’s Riley Langerman (Maryland) hit a sac-fly with the bases loaded, scoring Jake Reinisch (Wake Forest) to take an early 1-0 lead.It remained that way until the bottom of the fourth inning when Tyler Kelder (FAU) stroked a 1-out single to drive home Josh Stevenson (LSU).

The score read 1-1 going into the fifth until Jarek Woodward (GCU) entered with one on base. The Hunter McLean (Meridan CC) walk was followed by a 2-run home run off the bat of Matt Shaw (Maryland). Woodward pitched 2 innings, giving up two runs on one hit, walking two and striking out one.

Saugerties answered back with a big inning of their own scoring three runs to take a 4-3 lead. Nick Iverson (UC Davis) scored on a passed ball and then later on in his at-bat, Jakob Marquez (Wash. State) singled to score David Shackleford (Arizona) and tie the game. Three batters later, Kelder put a ball in play that scored a run on an error giving the Stallions the lead 4-3.

A pitching change took Cooke out of the game and brought on Gavin Stellphlug (Maryland) who faced four batters, giving up a hit, walking one, and getting out the inning.Just one half inning later with runners on second and third, Langerman tacked on another RBI with a sac-fly to center which brought in Reinisch again. Issac Brown (Marist) came in to pitch the sixth inning, retiring the side with one strikeout.

Theo Milas (LSU) entered in the contest in the seventh inning throwing two fantastic inning in the seventh and eighth only allowing 1 hit. Then in the ninth, with two outs and a runner on first, Brett Coker (Middle Tenn.) hits a double down the left field line scoring the go-ahead run, then CJ Funk (Pitt) drives in one more to make it a 6-4 game. Milas’ final line reads 3.0 innings, four hits, two runs and five strikeouts.

Connor Brandon (Toledo) did the same, entering in the seventh, but tossing just two innings retiring all six batters he faced, three via the strikeout.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Stallions threatened with the bases loaded and two outs but Brian Yetter (Marist) eventually got out of trouble, obtaining the save and helping Brandon and the Mohawks secure the win. In one inning, Yetter gave up one hit, walked two and struck out two. Milas got the loss.

In total, Saugerties had seven hits and left eight runners on base. The Mohawks had nine hits and stranded seven on base on the evening. Amsterdam had one error in the game.
