Jack Walker (Indiana), Michael Stanford (UC Irvine), and Rey Rodriguez (Webber) combined to throw a 4-hit shutout as the Saugerties Stallions defeated the Amsterdam Mohawks by a score of 4-0 Saturday night at Rao Family Stadium.
Jackson Phinney (Pitt) had 2 singles and a walk while CJ Funk (Pitt) and Robbie Armitage (Marist) were the only other Mohawks to record hits. Jack Walker started for Saugerties and went the first 4 innings allowing 2 hits and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts. Michael Stanford got the win improving to 2-0 as he went the next 4 innings allowing 2 hits and 1 walk with 4 strikeouts. Rey Rodriguez pitched a hitless ninth, allowing 1 walk with 1 strikeout to close out the game.
Cole Patten (Seton Hall) started for Amsterdam. After striking out the side in the first inning, Cade Verdusco (Grand Canyon) led off the second inning with a single. He advanced on a single and error and scored an unearned run on a Colin Mackle (Marist) groundout to give the Stallions a 1-0 lead.
The game stayed 1-0 until the fifth inning when Jack Renwick (Wofford) led off the inning with a home run. Later in the inning, Jarrett Brown (Georgia Southern) hit a double and scored on a Max Morris groundout to give the Stallions a 3-0 lead.
Saugerties added one more run in the ninth inning as Cade Verdusco doubled off Matt Gonzales (Barton) and scored on scored on a Colin Mackle double.
Cole Patten took the loss for the Mohawks falling to 1-1 as he went 6 innings, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with no walks and 7 strikeouts. Isaac Brown (Marist) and Ben Adams (St. John’s) each pitched a scoreless inning and Matt Gonzales gave up 1 run in the ninth.
The Mohawks will be on the road tomorrow to face the Utica Blue Sox at 5:00.
