The Mohawks defeated the Utica Blue Sox by a score of 8-3 on the road at Donovan Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams scored a run in the first as Bryce Eblin (Alabama) hit an RBI single that scored Matt Shaw (Maryland) for Amsterdam and Harris Williams (San Francisco) hit an RBI single that scored Edward Javier, Jr. (Coppin State) for Utica.
Amsterdam scored 3 in the third to take a 4-1 lead as Bryce Eblin hit an RBI double to score Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State) and Jake Reinisch (Wake Forest) hit a 2-run single to score CJ Funk (Pitt) and Eblin.
In the fifth, Brett Coker drove in Davis Meche (Mississippi State) with a single to make it 5-1 and in the sixth, Kai Roberts (Utah) hit a 2-run double that scored Riley Langerman (Maryland) and Jake Reinisch to make it 7-1.
The Mohawks added one more run in the ninth as Hunter McLean (Chattahoochee Valley) doubled and scored on an RBI single by Robbie Armitage (Marist). The Blue Sox scored twice in the ninth, but it was too late for a comeback as the Mohawks closed out an 8-3 win.
Nick Smith (Evansville) started for Amsterdam going the first 2 innings and allowed 1 run on 3 hits with no walks and 2 strikeouts. Carter Frederick (Auburn) got the win improving to 4-0 as he pitched 2 perfect innings with 2 strikeouts. Aidan Layton (Seton Hill) took the loss for the Blue Sox falling to 2-3 as he went the first 5 innings, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.
The Mohawks return home Monday night to take on the Albany Dutchmen at 6:35.
