Amsterdam, NY— Mohawks advance to Championship, defeat Doubledays 7-1
The Amsterdam Mohawks took down the Auburn Doubledays to advance to the PGCBL Championship for the third straight time by a score of 7-1 on Saturday night. Nick Smith (University of Evansville) gets the pitching win for the Mohawks and Alec Teska (St. John Fisher) is hit with the loss for the Doubledays.
The game stats off strong with a sliding double from Brian Norsen (St. John Fisher) a run scores to make it 1-0 in the top of the first. The Mohakws then take an early 4-1 lead with, the shortstop, Bryce Eblin’s (Alabama) Grand Slam.
The game remains the same until the bottom of the fourth where the third baseman, Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State) gets an RBI triple making the score 5-1. Next, in the bottom of the sixth Coker hits and RBI single making the score 6-1. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, catcher, Riley Langerman (Maryland) gets a base hit, and Kai Roberts (University of Utah) rounds third straight to home plate for the final run of the game for the Mohawks to make the score 7-1.
The Mohawks advance to the PGCBL Championship three game series with the first game starting in Amsterdam Sunday night against the Saugerties Stallions.
