Wingenter, Leiter, Gage Sign With New Teams

Three former Mohawks have signed with new teams so far this offseason. Trey Wingenter (2013-Auburn) signed with the Cincinnati Reds, Mark Leiter, Jr. (11-12-NJIT) signed with the Chicago Cubs and Matt Gage (2011-12-Siena) signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Trey Wingenter helped lead the Mohawks to a title in 2013. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 17th round of the 2015 MLB Draft and made his MLB debut with the Padres on August 7, 2018. After missing the 2021 season with an injury he became a free agent and signed a minor league contract with the Cincinnati Reds on December 1st with an invite to spring training.

Mark Leiter, Jr. is the Mohawks strikeout leader and was a key piece of the 2011 and 2012 teams. The Phillies drafted Mark in the 22nd round of the 2013 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with the Phillies on April 28, 2017. Last season, Leiter was in the minors with the Detroit Tigers and on December 15th he signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs.

Broadalbin-Perth grad Matt Gage joined the Mohawks during the playoffs of the 2011 season and pitched the 2012 season. He was the 10th round pick of the San Fransisco Giants in 2014 and made it to Triple-A with the Giants. Last season Gage pitched for the Venados de Mazatlan in the Mexican Pacific League. On November 29th he signed a minor league deal with the Toronto Blue Jays with an invite to spring training.
