Following a 4-2 loss to the Glens Falls Dragons, the Amsterdam Mohawks bounced back in a big way on Thursday night in Saugerties with an 11-0 win over the Stallions at Cantine Field. Amsterdam pitched a 3-hit shutout, while the offense produced 15 hits.
The game was scoreless until the third inning when Gage Miller (Bishop State) drove in Michael O’Shaughnessy (Davidson) with a single. Amsterdam then scored 3 in the third as Mark Black (Wake Forest) lead off the inning with a double and scored on a Zach Gardiner (Marshall) double. Cade Bush (Florida State) scored on a wild pitch and Gardiner came in on a Josh Overbeek (Pitt) single to give the Mohawks a 4-0 lead.
Zack Gardiner came through again in the fifth with a 2-run single scoring Brett Coker (Middle Tennessee State) and Mark Black (Wake Forest) as the Mohawks now led 6-0.
In the seventh, Nick Giamarusti (Pitt) walked, stole second, advanced on a flyout and scored on a delayed steal of home and in the eighth, Frankie Marinelli (Manhattan) drove in Josh Overbeek with a single to make it 8-0.
The Mohawks left the bases loaded in the ninth, but not before 3 runs scored as Gage Miller lead off the inning with a double and scored on a Brett Coker single. Zach Gardiner drove in Coker with a single and Michael O’Shaughnessy drove in Mark Black with a single to make it 11-0.
On the other side, Cade Citelli (UT-Arlington) was on cruise control the entire night. 6 innings pitched, no runs on 2 hits and 2 walks with 11 strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the season. Nolan Lamere (Clarke) pitched the final 3 innings to earn his second save of the season as he allowed just 1 hit and struck out 2. Noah DeLuga (Minnesota) took the loss for Saugerties falling to 0-1 as the starter allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, recording 1 strikeout.
Gage Miller, Mark Black, Cade Bush and Michael O’Shaughnessy each recorded 2 hits. Zach Gardiner went 3-for-4 with a double, 4 RBI, a run scored and a walk.
The Mohawks improved to 15-3 while the Stallions fell to 7-9. Amsterdam will travel to Mohawk Valley Friday night to play the DiamondDawgs before returning home on Saturday to host the Boonville Baseball Club. Saugerties will travel to Oneonta to take on the Outlaws Friday night.
