The Amsterdam Mohawks picked up where they left off last season with a 10-0 Opening Night win over the Albany Dutchmen at Rao Family Stadium on Thursday.
Tyler Sausville (New Haven) got the Opening Night start and threw a 1-2-3 inning to start off the game as he went 5 shutout innings allowing 3 hits, no walks and 3 strikeouts.
The Mohawks offense got going in the second inning as Eddy Leon (Marshall) drove in Bryce Hubbard (Mississippi State) with a single.
In the fourth, Dylan Banner (UAlbany) and Eddy Leon hit back-to-back sac-flies to score Dakota Duffalo (Utah) and Bryce Hubbard. Carlos Martinez (Pitt) then followed with the Mohawks first extra-base hit of the season, an RBI double that scored Eddie Yamin (Dayton) putting Amsterdam up 4-0.
The Mohawks added 2 in the fifth as reigning PGCBL Player of the Year Gage Miller (Bishop State) hit an RBI single scoring Zach Eldred (Brockport) and then scored on a Bryce Hubbard double making it 6-0.
In the sixth, Bruer Webster (Utah) doubled and drove in Eddy Leon, Zach Eldred singled driving in Carlos Martinez and Luke Longo (NJIT) singled driving in Webster as the Mohawks took a 9-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, Eddy Leon collected his third hit and third RBI of the game as Bryce Hubbard scored the game winning run as the 10-run rule came into effect ending the game right there.
The Mohawks collected 14 hits in the game as all ten batters recorded a hit and either scored a run or drove one in as eight players each had at least 1 RBI or run scored.
Mohawks pitching limited Albany to just 3 hits. Tyler Sausville collected the win, Gio Conte (UConn) and Ryan Taffe (Fairfield) each pitched a hitless inning and each recorded a strikeout.
Derek Duval (Post) took the loss for Albany dropping to 0-1. He went the first 3 allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 4 walks and 1 strikeout.
The Mohawks play their first road game of the year Friday in Glens Falls at 7:00 before returning home on Saturday to host the Saugerties Stallions for Fireworks Night at 6:35.
