The defending champion Amsterdam Mohawks returned to the field Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park as they hosted the All-Stars Academy in a 3-0 victory.
Colin Kidd (NJIT) started and pitched 3 perfect innings. He was followed by Mason Veronezi (Springfield) who pitched 3 scoreless innings to pick up the win and Parker Aikens (Rhode Island) got the save with a scoreless seventh.
The pitchers shined in this one as they matched each other through the first 3 innings. The score was deadlocked until the fourth inning when Tyler Figueroa (Siena) got the Mohawks on the board with a sac-fly that scored Jake Sparks (Marshall).
The teams played a full seven innings and in the bottom of the seventh with Cade Ladehoff (NJIT) hit a 2-run single to give the Mohawks a 3-0 lead and a 3-0 win.
The PGCBL regular season will kick off tomorrow in Glens Falls as the Mohawks play the Dragons at 7:00 and return home on Saturday against the Watertown Rapids for Fireworks Night.
