The Amsterdam  Mohawks scored 5 in the fourth and 5 in the seventh to cruise past the Glens Fallis Dragons by a score of 11-1 Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park.

Gage Haley (Mississippi State) started and dominated as he recorded 9 strikeouts over 5 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and 3 walks to pick up his first win of the season.

The Mohawks offence got to work in the bottom of the second as Cade Ladehoff (NJIT) led off the inning with a double and then scored on a Ben Huckans (St. John Fisher) double.

In the fourth inning Glens Falls starter Jayden Hughes (HVCC) struggled to locate the strike zone and walked the first 2 batters. Zach Eldred (Brockport) laid a bunt down the third base for a single to load the bases for Dew Nelson (Auburn). Nelson hit a single that deflected off the second basemen and drove in Jake Sparks (Marshall). Pete Daniel (Belmont) hit a 2-run single to right center scoring Eldred and Nelson. Aiden Stewart (Delaware) walked to load the bases again and Jackson Natili (Rutgers) walked to force in Jesse Kuzmich (Coastal Alabama North) and chase Jayden Hughes from the game. He was replaced by George Creighton (Scranton) who issued the second walk of the inning to Jake Sparks which forced in Pete Daniel to give the Mohawks a 6-0 lead.

Mason Veronezi (Springfield) took over on the mound in the sixth inning for the Mohawks and after a single and a hit batter, the Mohawks traded a run for an out as Kyle Wu (Wheaton) scored on a Stephen Katch (Mount St. Mary) groundout to second to make it 6-1.

Veronezi stayed on and pitched a scoreless seventh and the Mohawks offence got to work again in the bottom of the inning. Ben Huckans scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-1 and everything that followed happened with 2 outs. Pete Daniel hit an RBI single scoring Drew Nelson, Jackson Natili hit a 2-run double scoring Pete Daniel and Aiden Stewart and Cade Ladehoff (NJIT) capped off the game with a walk-off single scoring Natili and invoking the 10-run rule to end the game at a score of 11-1.

Said Ladehoff after the game: “We’ve got a lot of really great players on this team…I feel like as the season progresses, I’m seeing the ball a lot better and I think that goes for a lot of our teammates, so I think we’re only going to get better as the season goes on.”

The Mohawks improved to 4-1 and will host the Oneonta Outlaws on Friday night at home, meanwhile the Dragons fell to 0-6 and will return home to Glens Falls to host the Boonville Lumberjacks Friday night.
