Mohawks defeat Outlaws 11-4; tie Stallions for first place

By Sam Federman

Box Score

Logan Marquez (Herkimer) retired every single batter that he faced in the first two innings. Amsterdam struggled to time him up, and everybody was lost.

But his day only lasted those two innings, and the Mohawks began to find a stride swinging the bat in the third, carrying over to a big 4th inning. The first five hitters that Jordan Goble faced in the top of the fourth inning came around to score, erasing the 3-0 lead that Oneonta built up with a two-run home run from Connor Waiting in the second.

The fourth inning and another big inning later were the catalysts in Amsterdam’s 11-4 win against the Outlaws.

Pete Daniel (Belmont) delivered a two-run single to tie the game, and Goble was taken out of the game, replaced by Clax Cox (Western Carolina).

While Cox hit the first two batters that he faced, putting the Mohawks up by 2, he settled in and pitched until the 8th inning, when the first two hitters reached, and he was pulled.

The floodgates re-opened, with 6 runs vital insurance coming across, including a 2-run double from new Mohawk Evan Haeger (committed to Houston).

Jesse Kuzmich (Coastal Alabama North) entered the game in the 6th after five innings of work from Gage Haley (MIssissippi State). In his first frame, he set down the Outlaws 1-2-3, and only allowed one unearned run in his four-inning save. Kuzmich struck out the side in the 8th inning, fanning Ethan Glossa and Waiting, while catching Kyle Pollack looking.

The Mohawks go on the road to face the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Friday.
