The Mohawks scored a record 15 runs in the sixth inning as they defeated the Boonville Lumberjacks by a score of 19-1 in a 7-inning run shortened game Tuesday night at Shuttleworth Park.

The game started innocently enough. Drew Nelson stuck out the first 4 batters he faced for the Mohawks. Meanwhile Boonville starter Bryce Buscaglia started equally as well and held Amsterdam off the board for the first 3 innings.

The Lumberjacks broke into the run collum first as Joshua Lopez led off the third with a double and scored on a wild pitch.

The Mohawks answered back in the bottom of the fourth as Zach Eldred hit a 3-run home run to put the Mohawks up 3-1 and in the fifth Michael O’Brien drove in Steven Spalitta to make it 4-1.

And now the sixth inning. The previous record for runs in an inning was 12, set in the first inning against the Adirondack Trail Blazers in 2017. This inning saw 21 batters come to the plate, 9 hits and a record 15 runs scored.

Ready? Here we go:

Evan Haeger led off the inning with a double. Jackson Natili followed with a single and Cade Ladehoff drove in Haeger with a single. Zach Eldred struck out for the first out. Liam Willson reached on a fielder’s choice error. Pete Daniel then hit a 2-run double scoring Natili and Ladehoff which triggered a Lumberjacks pitching change. Drake Digiorno hit a single scoring Rob Rispoli. Luke Szepek singled home Daniel. With the bases now loaded Boonville struggled to find the strike zone. Javar Williams walked to force in Drake Digiorno, Evan Haeger walked to force in Luke Szepek and Aiden Stewart walked to force in Steven Spalitta which triggered another pitching change. Jimmy Dionne singled driving in Javar Williams and Ben Huckans walked to force in Evan Haeger. Rob Rispoli hit a 2-run single driving in Aiden Stewart and Jimmy Dionne. After Manny Santos singled to reload the bases, Drake Digiorno, Luke Szepek and Steven Spalitta all walked to force in Ben Huckans, Rob Rispoli and Santos. Javar Williams struck out for the second out and Evan Haeger, making his 3rd plate appearance of the inning, mercifully grounded out to end the inning as the Mohawks led 19-1.

Justin Shadek took over on the mound and quickly put an end to the game. It ended up being a 2-hitter for the Mohawks as Drew Nelson improved to 3-0 going 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits with 2 walks and 9 strikeouts. Gage Haley pitched a perfect sixth with 2 strikeouts and Shadek allowed 1 walk paired with 1 strikeout to end the game.

The Mohawks improved to 15-3 with the win. Bryce Buscaglia took the loss falling to 1-1 as the Lumberjacks now sit at 5-11.
