By Jon Sargalis

Box Score

The Mohawks have clinched the East Division for the 19th time and for the 12th consecutive season in the PGCBL with a 17-5 win over the Boonville Lumberjack on Monday night at Shuttleworth Park.

Amsterdam scored in all 6 innings they batted in as the game was cut short in the seventh inning due to the run rule. The Mohawks clubbed 13 total hits, which included 6 doubles and 3 home runs.

The Mohawks got on the board in the first inning with a bases loaded walk to Drake Digiorno (Utah) that forced in Evan Haeger (Alabama/Houston). The second inning saw the first home run of the game as Steven Spalitta (Mississippi State) clubbed his first of the season well over the wall and into the Chuctanunda Creek to put the Mohawks up 3-0.

The third inning was just 1 run as Evan Haeger led off with a double and scored on a Jimmy Dionne (Howard College) double making it 4-0.

The fourth inning was the money inning. No one hit a grand slam, which would’ve won a fan $10,000 from Northeastern Fine Jewelry, but the Mohawks did score 8 runs. Zach Eldred (Brockport) hit a 2-run home run for his second of the season. Cade Ladehoff (NJIT/Michigan) drove in Tyler Figueroa (Siena/Appalachian State), Jimmy Dionne hit his second double of the game driving in Evan Haeger again. Ladehoff scored on a wild pitch, Jake Sparks (Marshall) hit a 2-run double and then scored on a Liam Willson (Wake Forest) single as the Mohawks went up 12-0.

In the fifth, Cade Ladehoff hit his 15th double of the season, driving in Evan Haeger and Steven Spalitta making it 14-0. The double passed John Nogowski (2013) and Joe Genord (2016) for the most doubles in a season and tied him with Josh Gardiner (2013), Gage Miller (2022) and Luke Longo (2023) for the 2nd most in a season. Zak Colby (2012) holds the record with 19 doubles in a season.

The sixth was when Boonville finally got on the board. An error allowed Carter Storti (Wisconsin Parkside) to score and Nathaniel Vasquez (Emory Henry) hit a grand slam for his first home run of the season making it 14-5.

Amsterdam answered right back as Jake Sparks hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth. Tyler Figueroa then doubled home Liam Willson and Manny Santos (Rhode Island) hit a sac-fly scoring Aiden Stewart (Delaware) making it 17-5. Brian Yetter (Marist) came in and closed it out in the seventh with a 1-2-3 inning to end the game.

Peyton Fall (Central Florida CC) got the win, improving to 1-1, going 3 scoreless innings allowing 1 hit and 3 walks with 4 strikeouts as the Mohawks improved to 32-6. Cole Bakkum (Century) was saddled with the loss falling to 1-6 as the Lumberjacks fell to 10-25-1).

The Mohawks are back home Tuesday night for their last regular season game against the Saugerties Stallions at 6:35. It will be NASCAR Night, Scout Night, Fan Batting Practice and Vet’s Tuesday.
