The Amsterdam Mohawks offense was in full attack mode Friday night as they dismantled the Glens Falls Dragons by a score of 21-2, recording 17 hits, including 4 doubles and 3 triples. Evan Haeger had 6 RBI and Drake Digiorno drove in 5 as Digiorno tripled twice, meanwhile Haeger recorded a single, a double and a triple.
Glens Falls actually grabbed the lead first as James Ward led off the game with a single off Mohawks starter James Redick. That was followed by a walk and a single as the bases were loaded for Odilio Cesepedes. Amsterdam decided to let the run score as they got 2 quick outs on a double play and trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the first.
The Mohawks bats where chomping at the bit as the first 2 pitches resulted in a Javar Williams single and a Jackson Natili double. Three pitches later, Evan Haeger hit a 2-run double to left putting Amsterdam in front. A walk and a hit batter would load the bases for Drake Digiorno and he would hit a sac-fly to left, scoring Haeger and putting the Mohawks up 3-1 after 1.
In the second Kyle McNeff doubled for the Dragons and scored on an error to make it 3-2, but the tying run was thrown out at the plate to keep the Mohawks in front.
The bottom of the second was where things started to go off the rails. Liam Willson drew a four-pitch walk to start the frame. That was followed by some fantastic bunt singles by Rob Rispoli and Javar Williams to load the bases. A wild pitch would score Willson and a walk to Jackson Natili would reload the bases as the Dragons would go to the bullpen. Cade Ladehoff would just miss a grad slam with a 2-run double off the wall in left. Zach Eldred would follow with a 2-run single to right and Tyler Figueroa would cap off the 6-run inning with a single to left as the Mohawks took a 9-2 lead.
In the third, Jackson Natili doubled. Evan Haeger was hit by a pitch and Cade Ladehoff walked as Zach Eldred hit an RBI single. With the bases loaded, Drake Digiorno lined a pitch to right center and cleared the bases with a 3-run triple, then the throw got away from the third basemen as he scored on the error, making it 14-2.
In the fourth, Sebastian Harden was hit by a pitch and Austin Fawley walked which allowed Evan Haeger to hit an RBI single. Steven Spalitta hit a 2-run single and Drake Digiorno tripled again, this time driving in Spalitta to make it 18-2.
Evan Haeger put the icing on the cake in the fifth inning with a bases clearing triple as the left fielder dove to make the play on a shallow fly ball and missed, as the ball rolled to the wall, making it 21-2.
That would be all the Mohawks would get as the game ended in the sixth, finishing just one run shy of the team record of 22 runs set in 2017.
Cade Ladehoff also moved into sole possession of 2nd place on the Mohawks doubles list with his 16th of the season.
Jesse Kuzmich got the win, improving to 2-0 as the Mohawks move to 34-7. Reis Brammer took the loss, falling to 1-1 as the Dragons fall to 7-29-1.
