By Jon Sargalis

The 2024 MLB Draft has wrapped up and 7 Mohawks were selected this year. Additionally, 2 were signed as free agents following the draft.

Round 3: Gage Miller (2022-23 Bishop State/Alabama), Miami Marlins

The face of the Mohawks the past 2 seasons. Gage was the PGCBL Player of the year in 2022 with a .400 batting average and was the catalyst for 2 straight PGCBL titles as the Mohawks leadoff hitter. His name is also littered all throughout the Mohawks record books. He ranks 6th on the Mohawks hit list with 95, 4th in doubles with 23, 2nd in home runs with 16, 3rd in RBI with 71, 1st in runs scored with 91, 5th in walks with 48, 2nd in stolen bases with 26 and 6th in games played with 89.

Round 7: Kai Roberts (2021-Utah), San Diego Padres

Kai batted .258 in 44 games with the Mohawks. He hit 10 doubles and 3 home runs with 21 RBI, 24 runs scored and stole 8 bases.

Round 9: Keith Jones (2021-New Mexico State), Texas Rangers

Keith's summer was cut short due to injury, but in 23 games he hit .319 with 5 doubles, drove in 15 runs, scored 14 and stole 3 bases.

Round 11: Cade Citelli (2022-UT Arlington/Houston), Tampa Bay Rays

Cade split time between the Mohawks and the Cape Cod League in 2022. He was 5-0 on the mound for the Mohawks. He had a 0.98 ERA in 9 games and 36.2 innings pitched. He recorded 52 strikeouts while walking 16 and allowing 22 hits. Getting the ball in Game 1 of the PGCBL Championship, Cade set the tone by allowing 1 run over 7 innings with 2 hits, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. Even more impressive, Cade threw an immaculate inning in the Championship game.

Round 12: Ian Petrutz (2022-Maryland/Alabama), St. Louis Cardinals

One of the leaders for the 2022 Championship team, Ian hit .296 in 33 games for the Mohawks. He had 6 doubles, 1 triple, 4 home runs, 16 RBI, 23 runs scored and stole 9 bases. When the stakes rose in the Playoffs, so did Petrutz. He hit .571 with a double and a home run, bringing a next level of intensity back to the dugout.

Round 15: Conner Whittaker (2022-Florida State), Cleveland Guardians

One of the top relivers for the Mohawks in 2022, Conner went 4-0 with a 2.01 ERA, recording 5 saves. In 22.1 innings he recorded 34 strikeouts while surrendering 13 hits and 8 walks. In the Playoffs he was the winning pitcher in the East Division Final as he shut the door on the Saugerties Stallions and recorded 7 strikeouts in, holding the Stallions scoreless the final 4 innings to propel the Mohawks to the Championship Series.

Round 20: Carter Frederick (2021-Auburn/Oklahoma), Kansas City Royals

Drafted as a position player, Carter was a two-way player for the Mohawks in 2021 but was mostly used as a pitcher. He hit .250 with 1 home run in just 2 games at the plate. On the mound, Carter was 4-0 with a 5.78 ERA and recorded 24 strikeouts in 18.2 innings pitched.

Undrafted: Bryce Eblin (2021-Alabama), Chicago White Sox

Bryce hit .299 in 36 games as the Mohawks shortstop. He had 7 doubles, 3 home runs, 30 RBI, 24 runs scored and stole 8 bases.

Undrafted: Jack Seppings (2023-Brown), Milwaukee Brewers

One of the most electric pitchers the Mohawks have ever had. Having been on the roster for Great Britian for the World Baseball Classic in the spring of 2021, Seppings came to the Mohawks with high expectations and delivered. He was 3-0 with a perfect 0.00 ERA and recorded 2 saves. In 18.1 innings he recorded a staggering 39 strikeouts, good for an unheard of 19.1 K/9. He also only allowed 8 hits and 5 walks. The month of July, Seppings went to the Cape Cod League and had some dominate innings for the Chatham Anglers. Returning for the PGCBL Playoffs, Seppings ended the rallying Stallions hopes in the ninth inning as he struck out the side in order to get the Mohawks into the Championship Series. He then started Game 1 of the Championship Series and recorded 8 strikeouts over 5 shutout innings over the Elmira Pioneers.
