The Mohawks scored early and often Friday night at Shuttleworth Park as they defeated the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs 20-0.

Amsterdam put up 5 in the first, 4 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and 8 in the sixth before the game reached the 7-inning minimum to invoke the 10-run rule.

The flood gates opened in the second inning with Chris Hoalcraft leading off the inning with a double. Jayden Harriel drove him in with a single. Tucker Smith hit a sac-fly and Brandon McCraine cleared the bases with a 3-run double.

The fourth inning saw a Brandon McCraine RBI single, a Jake Long RBI double, a Chris Hoalcraft RBI single and a first and third delayed double steal as the Mohawks took a 9-0 lead.

In the fifth, Sebastian Harden drove in a run and Brandon McCraine beat out a single as 2 more runs scored giving the Mohawks a 12-0 lead.

The sixth inning had a Wes Walker 2-run single, a bases loaded walk to Luke Filippi, Brandon McCraine driving in another run, Jake Long walking with the bases loaded, Bray Touchstone reaching on an error driving in a run and Jayden Harriel driving in a pair with a single.

Brandon McCraine led the charge as he went 4-for-4 with a double and 7 RBI. He was one shy of Dylan Smith’s team record when he drove in 8 runs in 2013, who also attended Auburn. Jayden Harriel drove in 3 runs while Wes Walker and Jake Long each drove in 2 runs.

Overshadowed by all the offense was the terrific pitching performance by Joey Trombley. He started and pitched 4 hitless innings with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts to improve to 1-0. Jack Kirchner allowed 1 hit in 2 innings with 4 strikeouts and Derek Duval recorded 2 strikeouts in the seventh to end the game.

The Mohawks improved to 5-0 with the win while the DiamondDawgs fell to 3-3. Amsterdam will be on the road Saturday night in Glens Falls to take on the Dragons at 7:00. Check back on our social media pages and any weather updates regarding tonight’s game will be posted as soon as we are notified.
