For the second time this week, the Glens Falls Dragons had the Amsterdam Mohawks on the edge of defeat, and once again the Mohawks had a late rally to prevail victorious. The Mohawks extended their winning streak to 21-games over Glens Falls with a 7-6 victory on Friday night at Rao Family Stadium.

On Tuesday, the Mohawks had a walk-off walk to defeat the Dragons 12-11 after giving up a 6-1 lead. On Friday, Glens Falls was the team to give up the 6-1 lead.

Motivated by Tuesday’s loss, the Dragons were locked in early and staked themselves to a 3-run lead in the first. A Joe Karpierz sac-fly got Glens Falls on the board. That was followed by a Cameron Biller RBI single and a Cody Meier RBI double.

The Mohawks got one back in the bottom of the first as Brandon McCraine reached on an error and scored on a Jon Young, Jr. double to make it 3-1.

Former Mohawk Tyler Figueroa made his presence know in the top of the second with a homer to left giving the Dragons a 4-1 lead.

The scoring settled down for a few innings until Gene Savoca hit a 2-run home run for Glens Falls in the top of the fifth to give the Dragons a 6-1 lead.

The Mohawks began to chip away in the sixth. Danny Perez singled and scored on a Wes Walker double making it 6-2.

It the seventh, the Mohawks loaded the bases on walks and Chris Hoalcraft hit a sac-fly to plate Brandon McCraine to make it 6-3.

That set up the big rally for the Mohawks in the eighth. With 2 on and 1 out, Luke Filippis drove in Danny Perez with an infield single. After a walk loaded the bases, Jake Long lined a game tying 2-run single to center that scored Luke Filippi and Alex Junghans. Luke Costello stepped in next and delivered the knockout blow as he hit the go-ahead single to right, allowing Jon Young, Jr. to score and give Amsterdam the 7-6 lead.

Derek Duval stayed in for his third inning of work and after loading the bases on three straight singles, he was able to bear down and secure the next 3 outs and preserve the win for himself and the Mohawks.

The Mohawks improved to 10-1 as Derek Duval went to 2-0 with 3 scoreless innings to finish the game. Christian Mello fell to 0-1 as the Dragons fall to 3-6 on the season.

Up next, the Mohawks are on the road to face the Utica Blue Sox on Saturday night at 6:45.
