The Mohawks got redemption for last night's loss to the Saugerties by defeating the Stallions by a score of 10-3 on Wednesday night at Cantine Field.

So far this season, home field advantage has been no advantage for these two teams. With Amsterdam’s victory tonight, the season series between the Stallions and Mohawks is now knotted at two games apiece as each team has recorded their wins in the other team’s ballpark.

In today’s game, the Stallions took the lead in the first inning. Back-to-back singles by Lewis Rodriguez and Camren Carroll put runners on the corners with no outs. Carroll tried to steal second, but the throw by catcher Danny Perez beat him as Jon Young, Jr. applied the tag. However, that opened the door for Lewis Rodriguez to come home and put Saugerties up 1-0.

Amsterdam tied it up in the second and took the lead in the third. Danny Perez hit a sac-fly, allowing Jayden Harriel to score in the second inning and Ryan Schwartz drove in Luke Filippi with a single as the Mohawks took a 2-1 lead.

In the fifth, Chris Hoalcraft and Will Cowan hit back-to-back singles to start the inning and that was followed by a Ryan Schwartz sac-fly to make it 3-1. Later, Danny Perez singled to right which allowed Peyton Jemison to score and made it 4-1.

Saugerties battled back in the sixth as Casey Cumiskey, who recorded 3 hits on the day, hit a 2 out 2-run triple on a 1-2 count that brought home Dylan Passo and Logan Sanchez to make it 4-3.

The Mohawks played small ball in the seventh to gain some breathing room. Ryan Schwartz reached on a walk to lead off the inning. Schwartz took second on a wild pitch and Peyton Jemison moved him over to third with a bunt. That allowed Bray Touchstone to step in and the contact on a ground ball back to the pitcher was enough to get Schwartz home and make it 5-3.

The game stayed tight until the ninth inning and then the Mohawks broke it open. Between a popout and a flyout, Ryan Schwartz and Bray Touchstone were both hit by pitches. Danny Perez and Jon Young, Jr. each hit RBI singles to make it 7-3 and then Alex Junghans delivered the knock-out blow as he clubbed a 3-run homer to right-center and gave the Mohawks an insurmountable 10-3 lead.

Derek Duval locked it down in the ninth to preserve the 10-3 win for Zach Hernandez who moved to 2-0 on the season as he collected 6 strikeouts over 4 innings for the 14-6 Mohawks. Montrell Christian, Jr. (0-2) took the loss for the Stallions as they fell to 10-7.

The Mohawks will play the Troy Haymakers in a non-league game tomorrow night at Rao Family Stadium starting at 6:35 PM.
