The Mohawks swept a doubleheader against the Glens Falls Dragons by scores of 5-2 and 9-1 on Sunday at East Field.
In the first game, the Dragons got on the board in the first inning as an error extended the inning and allowed Trent Jenks to score.
The Mohawks offense got going in the fourth inning after Glens Falls starter Dilon Harding held the bats at bay for the first 3 innings. Chris Hoalcraft led off the inning with a double. He scored on a Brandon McCraine single to tie the game and Will Cowan followed with double to score McCraine and give the Mohawks a 2-1 lead. Danny Perez drove in Cowan with a single as the Mohawks took a 3-1 lead in the fourth.
Glens Falls got one back in the bottom of the fourth Robert Melo hit a triple and scored on a Cameron Biller groundout to make it 3-2.
Amsterdam added a pair of runs in the sixth as Wes Walker recorded his third hit of the game for a 2-run single that scored Jon Young, Jr. and Danny Perez to make it 5-2.
Tristan Hunter was the winning pitcher as he improved to 1-1 and Mason Veronezi recorded his first save of the season. Dilon Harding fell to 1-2 with the loss for the Dragons.
The second game was all Mohawks. Danny Perez scored on an error and Brad Curtis hit a 2-run double that scored Wes Walker and Sebastian Harden as the Mohawks took a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
With the bases loaded in the third inning, Jon Young, Jr. hit a single that dropped into shallow right and scored Brandon McCraine to make it 4-0.
Sac-flies in the fourth and fifth made it 6-0 as Alex Junghans hit the sac-fly that brought Brad Curtis home in the fourth and Danny Perez hit the sac-fly that brought Bray Touchstone home.
The Dragons scored their lone run in the fifth as Christian Mote scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-1.
In the sixth, the Dragons issued 4 straight walks but Brandon McCraine came home on a wild pitch first to make it 7-1.
In the seventh, Chris Hoalcraft doubled and drove in Sebastian Harden and Alex Junghans hit a sac-fly that brought in Brad Curtis to make it 9-1.
The Mohawks only surrendered 2 hits as James Redick got the win allowing 1 hit and no walks with 4 strikeouts, improving to 2-0 as the Mohawks improved to 20-6-1. Colin McMahon fell to 0-1 as the Dragons fell to 9-16.
Amsterdam will be off tomorrow and return to action Tuesday as they will host the Dragons at 6:35 PM.
