Jake's Return Sparks Mohawks

Jake Sparks, who was part of the 2024 Mohawks Championship run, returned to the Mohawks on Saturday and doubled twice to help defeat the Glens Falls Dragons 7-2 at East Field.

The scoring started in the third inning as Bray Touchstone hit an RBI double and that was followed by a John McKillop single as the Mohawks grabbed a 2-0 lead.

Now a sophomore at Siena, Jake Sparks got hit his first double of the game in the fourth inning as it drove in Wes Walker who was playing in his final game as a Mohawk. Sparks scored later in the inning as Jon Young, Jr. grounded into a double play which gave the Mohawks a 4-0 lead.

Glens Falls got on the board in the fourth inning with a Joe Karpierz sac-fly to make it 4-1. It was the only blemish in a fantastic outing for Mohawks starter, James Redick, who threw 6 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits as 1 walk with 9 strikeouts.

Amsterdam scored another pair of runs in the seventh as Chris Hoalcraft reached on an error allowing Jon Young, Jr. to score and Bray Touchstone grounded out to drive in Luke Filippi for his second RBI of the game.

In the eighth, Sparks hit his second RBI double of the game scoring Wes Walker, who led off the inning with his own double. James Haughton got the run back for Glens Falls as he singled to drive in Christian Mote to make it 7-2.

Mason Veronezi and Derek Duval closed out the win for Redick who improved to 4-0 on the season as the Mohawks improved to 27-8-2. In addition to Redick’s 9 strikeouts, Verenozi added 5 and Duval added 1 for a total of 15 strikeouts by Mohawks pitching.

Dillon Harding fell to 1-3 as he allowed 5 earned runs over 7 innings pitched as the Dragons fell to 11-22.

The Mohawks will be off the next 2 days before hosting the Boonvile Lumberjacks on Tuesday night at Rao Family Stadium.
