A great comeback for the Amsterdam Mohawks would not be enough to bring a road victory as Glens Falls prevailed 11-8 in a wild Friday night contest at East Field.

The Mohawks found themselves trailing 8-2 in the fourth inning but rallied for two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to tie the score at 8-8. The Golden Eagles pushed back ahead with two runs in the seventh and another in the eighth. Glens Falls hung on through a steady downpour in the ninth to finish the victory. There were no weather issues before the late rain in the last inning.

Amsterdam's first loss of the season moved their record to 1-1. Glens Falls picked up their first win of the year to improve to 1-2.

Josh Nethaway (Univ. Albany) blasted the first homerun of the season for the Mohawks on a shot to left in the first inning staking the Mohawks to a 2-0 lead. Nethaway is one of five returning Mohawks for 2012 after finishing second on the team last year with 26 RBI.

Mike Vigiliarolo (St. Louis) drilled a three-run double as part of a four-run bottom of the first to give the Golden Eagles the lead. Vigliarolo finished with four rbi going 2-for-3. Ross Kivett (Kansas State) for Glens Falls went 3-for-5 with two steals and two runs.

Amsterdam's Zak Colby (Faulkner, Ala.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Mohawks second-baseman Giuseppee Papaccio (Seton Hall) had a based-loaded double in the sixth inning for two rbi with a third eventually also scored on the play via a throwing error.

Amsterdam starting pitcher Dan Zlotnick (Marist) battled through four tough innings in which he allowed eight runs, seven earned, while walking six and giving up seven hits.

The game was the first of eight meetings on the regular season between the two Perfect Game League rivals.

The Mohawks return to Shuttleworth Park on Saturday night featuring the first of four spectacular post-game fireworks shows presented by McDonalds. Amsterdam plays the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 7:00.

Amsterdam hits the road again on Sunday at 4:00 to complete their suspended game at Cooperstown followed by the originally scheduled game. The Mohawks and Hawkeyes will pick up in the 12th inning tied at 2-2.
