The hits just kept coming! And so did the runs. The Amsterdam Mohawks belted out a season-high 19 hits in an 11-0 rout at the Albany Dutchmen on Wednesday night at Bob Bellizzi Field for the team's eighth straight win in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

Amsterdam improved to 9-2 with the win to maintain their hold on sole possession of first place in the league. Jefff Boehm (Kentucky) socked a three-run homer and Nathan Gomez (Marshall) produced four of the team's hits to lead the offense but in reality it was a night in which pretty much everyone got a chance to produce. Evan Stephens (Wake Forest) went 3-for-4.

The Mohawks have now recorded shutouts in three of their last four wins and this one was a combined effort two-hitter from starter Connor Kaden (Wake Forest) started and struck out seven including four K's in the first inning. Kevin Archbold (Univ. Albany) threw 2.1 frames of one-hit shutout relief and earned the win. And Matt Gallup (Stony Brook) joined the team for the first time this season after his Seawolves were eliminated in the College World Series in Omaha. He closed out the game with seven straight outs while surrendering just one walk.

Amsterdam's offense has scored seven or more runs six times in the course of their eight-game win streak. The Mohawks have outscored their opponents 56-15 in the streak for an average score of 7-2. In the last five games of the streak, Amsterdam has outscored the opposition 35-5.

The game was still reasonably close before Amsterdam put it away in the final two innings. The Mohawks led 5-0 when they scored two in the eighth inning and four more in the ninth.

Albany was not without their chances especially early in the game when the score was still competitive. They only had two hits but they also drew seven walks and had a batter hit by a pitch as they stranded a
total of 10 runners on base.

Giuseppe Papaccio (Seton Hall) drilled an RBI double down the right-field line in the first plating Ed Charlton (NJIT) to give Amsterdam the initial 1-0 lead.

Jeff Boehm hit his three-run homer to straight-away center in the fifth to make it 4-0. His first of the year is the team's sixth. Surprisingly, all of the team's long-balls have come on the road. Amsterdam is still in search of their first Shuttleworth Park homer.

Demarcus Henderson (Mississippi State) singled and eventually came in to score on a wild pitch in the sixth to advance the lead to 5-0.

Evan Stephens doubled in the seventh and scored on a Zak Colby (Faulkner) sac-fly in the eighth for one of the two scores in that frame.

A couple of big triples highlights the ninth inning including a one-run three-bagger by Chase Williamson (Auburn) and a two-run triple for Scott Heath (Maine).

Amsterdam is at home on Thursday with a split twin-bill at 3:00 and 7:00. Both games will be seven innings and the second annual Chamber Softball Classic will take place between games. The doubleheader is a first place versus second place showdown against the Oneonta Outlaws.

The Mohawks are back at home on Friday night as part of the sixth annual ParkFest presented by the Wasserman Foundation which begins at 4:00 with great rides, ponies, concessions items and games, etc. The ballgame is at 7:00 and a post-game fireworks spectacular will follow courtesy of Rick's RoBo Car Wash.
