The Amsterdam Mohawks and Albany Dutchmen have played each other five
times this season and all five have been decided by one run. Two more
tight finals on Thursday at Shuttleworth had the Mohawks winning the
opening contest 5-4 in 11 innings and then the Dutchmen rallying late
in the nightcap to pull out a 4-3 victory and earn the split.

The first game began in the 10th inning in a 4-4 tie. The game was put
on pause last Friday when it was suspended due to rain at 11:58 p.m.
in front of a large Fireworks Night crowd. The completion saw Dylan
Smith (Auburn) complete the walk-off win with a drive off the Chain
Monster in left which scored Jordan Ebert (Auburn) who had singled and
then made it to third on a steal and throwing error.

Schenectedy native Mike Urbanski (Binghamton) fired two perfect
innings in extras with three strikeouts to improve to 3-2 .Urbanski is
second in the league in strikeouts with 33 even though he is a relief
pitcher.

The second game had Amsterdam leading most of the way and on the verge
of completing the sweep which would have moved them past the Dutchmen
into second place in the division. But Albany rallied for three runs
in the eighth inning with Matt Dacey (Michigan) dealing the decisive
blow via a two-run single to left off Urbanski.

Andrew Bannon (Skidmore) garnered his first win with three strong
innings of late relief work allowing no runs and only one hit while
striking out three as he kept the Dutchmen within striking distance.
And Dylen Collett picked up his second save of the season leaving the
tying man stranded at second base.

John Nogowski (Florida State) led Amsterdam with his third home run of
the season plus an RBI single. His solo shot in the first inning
staked Amsterdam to the early 1-0 lead. And his RBI single in the
third made it 2-1.

John Nogowski returns to the dugout after his home run.

Dylan Dwyer (Kentucky) dealt five innings for the Mohawks allowing
just two hits and one earned run while striking out six to equal his
season high. Then Christian Bartholomew (Wake Forest) picked up where
Dwyer left off and kept the two-hitter going into the eighth inning as
Albany could hardly muster even a base-runner. Dwyer and Bartholomew
combined to retire 13 straight Dutchmen from the third through the
seventh innings and Bartholomew blew them away striking out the side
in the seventh.

But the Dutchmen still had a couple more innings left to make it
happen which is exactly what they did. After a hit batter and then
one-out singles by Anthony Marks (Coastal Carolina) and Brad Noland
(Villanova) to load the bases, it would be Zach Remillard (Coastal
Carolina) drilling a deep sacrifice fly off new pitcher Urbanski to
make it 3-2.

And then Matt Dacey (Michigan) would rap his game-winning two-run
single to left for the 4-3 final.

Albany improved to 4-1 in the season series against Amsterdam. Three
of the five games in the rivalry have been walk-off wins including
Amsterdam's walk-off to begin the evening.

Amsterdam moves to 16-14 with the split while the second-place
Dutchmen maintain a 1.5 game lead over the Mohawks in the East
Division standings with a record of 15-10.

The Mohawks hit the road for two straight on Friday and Saturday at
Adirondack and Utica. 6'7" righty Trey Wingenter (Auburn) starts for
the Mohawks in Boonville, N.Y. Friday night against the Trail Blazers.
Amsterdam returns home Sunday night at 7:05 against the Cooperstown
Hawkeyes.

Albany has yet another big showdown with league-leading Glens Falls
hosting a 5:05 doubleheader against the Golden Eagles at Bob Belizzi
Field.

Notes: Amsterdam at Albany was rained out the previous night on
Wednesday. That game will be made up as a doubleheader at Albany on
