Kevin Guthrie rounds first after hitting a 2-run double in the 2nd inning

The Amsterdam Mohawks turned the tables on the Utica Brewers for a
13-7 victory on Saturday night at Donovan Stadium in Utica. Amsterdam
led 12-0 early in the game starting with an eight-run rally in the
second inning and cruised from there to the victory,

Two weeks ago, it was Utica who raced out to a 12-1 lead in the fourth
inning on their way to winning by a 12-7 final. This one was eerily
similar except for the opposing team. Amsterdam led 12-1 in the fourth
inning and then won 13-7.

The victory keeps Amsterdam in a virtual tie for third-place in the
East Division with Mohawk Valley who also won their Saturday night
game. The top three teams in the division will qualify for the
playoffs in August.

Kevin Guthrie (Brown) led the Mohawks with five RBIs including a
two-run double in the team's largest single-inning rally of the
season. Guthrie finished the game 3-for-6 with two runs scored along
with his five driven in. Normally a relief pitcher, Guthrie was making
just his third start in the batting order and only his second behind
the plate.

Josh Gardiner (Radford) added a two-run double in that inning as well
establishing himself as the team-leader in RBIs with 20 and in doubles
with nine. Shane Zimmer (Canisius) and Jordan Ebert (Auburn) each had
three hits.

Rich Vrana (Marist) was credited with the victory in relief after
starting pitcher Matt Ternowchek (Notre Dame) pitched only four
innings and thus was not eligible for the win. Vrana and then Taylor
Butler (LSU) combined to strike-out the last seven Utica batters in
order to finish the game. Vrana struck out the side in the eighth and
then Butler did the same in the ninth.

The Mohawks return home Sunday night at 7:05 against the Cooperstown
Hawkeyes with Matt Snyder (FMCC) starting for Amsterdam.
