The Amsterdam Mohawks leap-frogged past the Albany Dutchmen with a
doubleheader sweep of their East Division rivals at Bob Belizzi Field
taking the twin-bill by scores of 7-4 and 7-0.

Colonie native Matt Snyder (Fulton-Montgomery C.C.) spun six brilliant
innings of three-hit shutout ball with eight strikeouts in the
nightcap to improve to 4-0. In the process, the Mohawks left-handed
lowered his league-leading ERA to 1.29 to comfortably distance himself
from all other PGCBL hurlers in his last start before the PGCBL
All-Star Game on Wednesday night in Newark, N.Y.

Chris Kalica (Schenectedy County C.C.) finished off the three-hit gem
in Game 2 with the final three outs in the seventh inning.

Josh Gardiner (Radford) went 4-for-6 on the day with two doubles and a
triple. He drove in the game-winning RBI with a triple in the top of
the seventh in Game 1 to break a late 4-4 tie. Jordan Ebert (Auburn)
socked his fifth home run of the season in the opening game and is now
tied for second in the league in long balls.

Game 1 was a 4-4 tie into the seventh inning when Amsterdam rallied
for three runs on three straight extra-base RBI hits. Josh Gardiner
tripled home John Nogowski (Florida State) who was hit by a pitch to
start the surge. Then Dylan Smith (Auburn) and John Sansone (Florida
State) followed with back-to-back doubles for the 7-4 final.

Schenectedy native Mike Urbanski (Binghamton) was the winning pitcher
in Game 1 with two innings of one-run relief as he improved to 3-2.
Matt Ternowchek (Notre Dame) took a no decision with five innings
allowing four hits and two earned runs with zero walks and three
strikeouts.

Matt Dacey (Michigan) had a pair of doubles in the first game to pace
the Dutchmen.

Game 2 was a 0-0 duel through the first five innings between Matt
Snyder and Albany spot starter Jose Hernandez (Pace). Hernandez kept
in 0-0 scattering four hits before he was removed with two outs in the
fifth inning in an especially impressive performance for his first
start of the year.

Amsterdam broke the scoreless deadlock with four runs in the sixth and
three more in the seventh. Jordan Ebert's pinch-hit infield single
with two outs and the bases-loaded in the sixth got the Mohawks on the
board at 1-0. A wild pitch made it 2-0 and then Dylan Smith (Auburn)
drove in two more with a single.

Amsterdam has won six of their last seven and improves to 22-16 on the
year while Albany falls to 21-16. The Mohawks are in a virtual tie for
second place in the division with Mohawk Valley with both teams
trailing first place Glens Falls by 1.5 games. Albany falls out of the
top three in the division but only a half-game behind Amsterdam and
Mohawk Valley. It's a heated battle among the top four for the three
playoff spots to be awarded at the regular season conclusion July 31.

Left-hander Rich Vrana (Marist) starts for Amsterdam on Sunday at 3:00
at Adirondack as the Mohawks attempt to make it three road wins in
roughly 24 hours. Amsterdam returns to Shuttleworth Park on Monday
night at 7:05 against an undoubtedly motivated Albany Dutchmen team.

The Dutchmen are at home Sunday evening at 5:00 against the
first-place Glens Falls Golden Eagles.
