Mohawks crush Adirondack 14-3

BOONVILLE – Devin Wenzel and Dylan Smith each belted home runs, and the Amsterdam Mohawkls erupted for a six-run sixth inning that helped put away a 14-3 victory over the Adirondack Trail Blazers Sunday afternoon. The win helped move the Mohawks into sole possession of second place in the Eastern Division.

Smith, Wenzel and Josh Gardiner drove in three runs apiece for the Mohawks, who pounded out 18 hits en route to victory. Rich Vrana earned the on the mound improving to 5-0 on the season. He held Adirondack to a run on three hits over 5 innings.

Eight Amsterdam players – Wenzel, Smith, Gardiner, Kyle Barrett, Jordan Ebert, John Nogowski, Brian Ruby and Keith Skinner – had multiple hits.

With the win, Amsterdam (23-16) sits just a half-game behind division-leading Glens Falls. Mohawk Valley and Albany sit a half-game back of Amsterdam ties for the third and final playoff spot in the East Division.
