Glens Falls makes most of Mohawks mistakes, 10-1

Box Score

Amsterdam – The Amsterdam Mohawks (2-4) went ahead and decided to play the only game in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League that wasn’t postponed due to rain. In doing so, the Mohawks had to swallow their own pill, losing 10-1 to the Glens Falls Golden Eagles (4-3). Williams Darruthy (Florida International) pitched four solid innings to earn the win in a rain-shortened, six-inning game.

Darruthy allowed only three scattered hits while striking out four and walking two. Garrett Bernardo (Anderson) hit a two-run home run over the fence in left field that put the rain-soaked game even further out of reach for Amsterdam in the third-inning.

Amsterdam starter Zack Brown (Kentucky) struggled to get anything going in his two plus innings of work and surrendered five earned runs. Dan Castro (UAlbany) came in and pitches another three plus innings and didn’t fare any better.

The Mohawks’ defense didn’t help the cause much either. Two errors and two wild pitches in the third inning allowed the Golden Eagles to score two more runs after the Bernardo home run.

Amsterdam went to change pitchers with two outs in the top of the sixth and the umpires called the game due to rain. The Mohawks lose their first game since winning two straight, including a six run victory in Glens Falls. Amsterdam travels to Newark on Friday at 7 to take on the Pilots.

The Golden Eagles’ win moves them to 4-3 on the young season and right behind Mohawk Valley and Albany. Glens Falls travels to Utica in a showdown with the Brewers at 7.
