Game 2 Box Score

The Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs finally got to play baseball in Little Falls after three straight days of rainouts last week and a game in Boonville on Saturday, but they got swept in a doubleheader with the Amsterdam Mohawks, losing Game 1, 2-1 in eight innings and winning/losing Game 2, 6-2.

In Game 1, Mohawk Valley pitcher Ed Lewicki (Arlington, VT/Siena) took a no-hitter through five innings, but that was broken up by a single from Mohawks right fielder Marcus Carson (London, KY/U. of Kentucky).

Unfortunately, the Diamond Dawgs could only muster one run, on a single from Colin Hawk (Beech Grove, IN/U. of Cincinnati) in the second inning that scored Jayson Sullivan (Charlton, NY/Sacred Heart).

The Mohawks would get their runs the hard way, scoring on a passed ball in the seventh that took the first game to extra innings, and then scoring the winning run from Carson on a throwing error from catcher Eric Strano (Robbinsville, NJ/Rider).

Matt Pidich was saddled with the loss for Mohawk Valley (5-3). EJ Ashworth (Orange, CT/ Fairfield) pitched a complete game, and got the win for Amsterdam (4-6).

With the win, the Mohawks snapped the Diamond Dawgs’ four-game winning streak.

In Game 2, Mohawks pitcher Brandon Whitmore (Hinesville, GA/Savannah State) made his debut start against Diamond Dawg Nick Petrella (West Sayville, NY/Skidmore).

Petrella pitched four solid innings for the Diamond Dawgs before being replaced by Little Falls native Lucas Godlewski (Herkimer College), however, Whitmore was not so lucky, hitting leadoff hitter Mason Nickens (Gonzales, LA/LSU-Eunice) before giving up four straight singles, which scored Nickens and right fielder Jake Glauser (Goffstown, NH/Southern Maine).

Godlewski and Whitmore would then engage in a pitchers duel, both piching four scoreless innings before Amsterdam scored two runs in the sixth to tie the game at two, which got Godlewski pulled for Evan Kissinger (Baton Rouge, LA/LSU-Eunice) as the rain began to come down in Little Falls.

Lightning pulled both teams off the field in the bottom of the sixth inning, with the score tied at two. After about an hour delay, the teams were allowed to come onto the field again.

After the delay, the Mohawks came back in a big way, scoring four off of Diamond Dawg pitcher Anthony Pastrana (Queens, NY/Dominican) in the top of the seventh. Thomas Hackimer (Floral Park, NY/St. John’s) pitched two solid innings for the Mohawks, as he got the 6-2 victory in Game 2.

Pastrana would get the loss for the Diamond Dawgs, who, with the sweep, fall 2.5 games back of first-place Albany.

The Diamond Dawgs head to Boonville for the second time in four days for their next game as they will play the Trailblazers on Tuesday. Amsterdam will go back to Shuttleworth Park on Tuesday as they will host the Watertown Rams.
