Razzino Steals Home As Hawks Win Sixth Straight In Extras

By Justin Mattingly

Box Score

Down by a run in the top of the ninth. The perfect time to steal home, right? John Razzino thought so. After being hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, the Amsterdam designated hitter advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt, promptly stole third base and with the pitcher throwing from the windup, he stole home to tie the game at four.

Amsterdam would go on to defeat the host Adirondack Trail Blazers in extra innings, as the Mohawks have now won six games in a row and are 8-6 on the season. Adirondack fell to 3-10 on the campaign.

In the top of the tenth, Josh Gardiner double home two runs to give Amsterdam a 6-4 lead. After Friday’s 3-for-5 night, Gardiner is now hitting .400 on the season, second in the PGCBL for hitters who qualify with a minimum of two at-bats/team game. Zach Breen came on in the bottom of the tenth and struck out the side to preserve the win for the Mohawks.

Kevin Guthrie, Blake Logan and Jake Salpietro each added two hits for Amsterdam. Salpietro hit a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, his first of the season. Mark Williams and Alex Voitik each hit solo home runs for Adirondack. Joe Randall picked up the win for Amsterdam and Woody Bryson took the loss for the Trail Blazers.
