By Jon Sargalis

Box Score

What a difference a week makes. Last Sunday, the struggling Mohawks picked up their third win of the season to improve to a meager 3-6 record. This Sunday the Amsterdam Mohawks (10-6) defeated the Utica Brewers (2-13) 6-2 on the road, to make it eight straight wins and now sit one game behind the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs for first place in the East.

Jonathon Pryor (Wake Forest) had 3 RBI and Blake Logan (Auburn) drove in 2 to lead the way offensivly.

In the second inning; Pryor had an RBI ground out and Logan followed with an RBI single as the Mohawks kept up the trend putting runs on the board early; taking a 2-0 lead. The Mohawks have now outscored opponents 29-9 in the first 2 innings of games this season.

EJ Ashworth (Fairfield) delivered another gem as he pitched 7 innings allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts to improve to 3-0 on the season and lower his ERA to 1.38. Ashworth’s lone mistake came in the fifth inning as Marcelo Sanchez hit a pitch over the wall in left field to get the Brewers on the board.

In the sixth inning; Alex DeBellis (Lynn University) reached on an error which allowed Josh Gardiner (Radford) to score making it 3-1 Mohawks.

In the seventh, the tag team of Pryor and Logan came through again as Jonathon Pryor ripped a 2-run single and Blake Logan immediately followed with an RBI double, to put the Mohawks up 6-1.

Zach Breen took over the pitching duties in the eighth and allowed a run to score on a wild pitch, he then came back in the ninth and shut the door with a 1-2-3 inning to secure the Mohawks eighth straight victory.
