The Amsterdam Mohawks defeated the Utica Brewers by a score of 7-1, extending their win streak to nine games. The Mohawks took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a monstrous homerun by leftfielder John Razzino (Franklin Pierce), and never looked back.
Rightfielder Jonathan Pryor (Wake Forest) had an outstanding night at the plate for the Mohawks. He went 3-3 with a double and a walk, and scored three times. Although Razzino only went 1-4 on the night, his team-leading second home run of the season extended his hit streak to seven games, and his runs-scored streak to six games.
Utica’s centerfielder Cedric Mullins (Louisburg) lead off the game by reaching on an error by Jack Czeszeweski (Illinois State), and came around to score on a double by Hayden Kelly (Polk State College). That would be the only run the Brewers would score all game. The Mohawks tied the game in the bottom of the fifth when Jonathon Pryor doubled, and then came around to score on a Jake Salpietro (Fairfield) single.
John Razzino lead off the bottom of the sixth with a moonshot to deep centerfield, which ended up being the winning run for the Mohawks. The Mohawks would add two more runs in the inning on a two-out two RBI single by Brendan Tracy (Fairfield), which plated newcomer Tom Kain (Lynn University), and Pryor.
After going down in order in the seventh inning, the Mohawks scored three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Mohawks loaded the bases, and Jake Salpietro scored Tom Kain on a sacrifice fly. Joey Aiola (Marist) then put a charge into a ball that hit off the fence in right-centerfield, which scored Jonathan Pryor and Brendan Tracy.
Brandon Whitmore (Savannah State) induced three double plays, struck out three and earned the win for the Mohawks by pitching six solid innings. John McCarren (Wake Forest) pitched three innings in relief for the Mohawks, and struck out six while earning the save.
The red-hot Mohawks look to extend their win streak to ten games tomorrow when the Glens Falls Golden Eagles visit Shuttleworth Park. The Utica Brewers will return home to try to break their eight game losing streak against the Albany Dutchmen.
