The Amsterdam Mohawks bounced back from Friday night’s loss by blanking the Glens Falls Dragons 6-0 Saturday at Shuttleworth Park. Aidan McDermott (St. John’s) and Hunter Tackett (Auburn) both homered in the win.

Tackett finished the night 1-for-1 with the homer as his only official at-bat. The Mohawks center fielder drew four walks. McDermott was 1-for-5. Drew Freedman (Wake Forest) was the only Mohawk to record multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with a double, single, a run scored, and one RBI. The Dragons were held to just four hits from Danny Oliveri (Triton), Zach LaFleur (LSU-Eunice), Ryan Dodge (Nova Southeastern), and Zach McIlroy (Anderson), who added a pinch-hit single in the 8th.

After struggling to cash in against Albany the previous night, the Mohawks struck early Saturday night with four runs in the 2nd inning. Aidan McDermott led off the inning with the first Mohawk home run of the season to left field. Tom Moore (Schenectady County CC) followed with a single and, after stealing second base, scored on Freedman’s double to left. Following a Riley Mahan (Kentucky) walk, Justin Yurchak (Wake Forest) brought home Freedman with a single. Mahan would come into score after a passed ball during Brendan Tracy’s (Fairfield) at-bat to tack the home team to a 4-0 lead. All was quiet until the bottom of the 6th inning when Tackett deposited a two-out curveball over the center field fence to make it 5-0 Amsterdam. The Mohawks added one more run in the 8th when Mahan scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Tracy.

Anthony Romanelli (Wake Forest) started, but came just short of the five inning-minimum required to receive credit for the win. Romanelli went 4 innings, allowing one hit, two walks, and six strikeouts. The win went to Tyler Smith (Canisius), who made his Mohawks debut and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 4. The loss for Glens Falls went to Sam Steeves (Franklin Pierce) who dropped to 0-1. Steeves allowed four runs on four hits, walked five, and struck out two in 1.1 innings of work.

Glens Falls dropped to 1-4 and has now lost three straight. The Dragons return home to East Field tomorrow to host the Saugerties Stallions at 3 p.m. Amsterdam will travel to Albany for a rematch with the Dutchmen at 5:05 p.m.
