By Cody Marshall

Box Score

The Saugerties Stallions rallied with two runs in the top of the ninth to down the Amsterdam Mohawks 5-4 on Tuesday. An Amsterdam throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by Micah Riddick (SUNY Ulster) allowed Darian Blanks (Niagara) to score the winning run with nobody out. The Stallions capitalized on four errors committed by the Mohawks.

The Stallions were led by catcher John Giakis (Fairleigh Dickinson) who went 2-for-4 with a single, double, RBI, and a run. Defensively, Giakis also caught three baserunners stealing. Amsterdam was led by Tyler Kirkpatrick (Marist) who was 2-for-3 with a single, home run, RBI, and run scored.

Saugerties took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 4th inning. Pat Dorrian (Herkimer CC) singled with one out and would score one batter later when Clint Hardy (Georgia Regents) doubled and the ball was bobbled by the left fielder. John Novenche (St. Bonaventure) drove in Hardy with a single.

Amsterdam got on the board in the 5th on a line drive home run to left by Tyler Kirkpatrick (Marist). Saugerties responded with a run in the top of the 6th when Hardy singled and later scored on a single by Giakis. The Mohawks tied the game 3-3 in the bottom half when Riley Mahan (Kentucky) doubled to score Drew Freedman (Wake Forest) from first. Hunter Tackett (Auburn) singled to drive in Mahan two batters later.

Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) broke the tie in the bottom of the 7th with a home run to center. However, the Stallions didn’t go away. In the top of the ninth, Giakis led off with a double, and then scored on a single by Chris Reynolds (Manhattan). With the game tied at four, Riddick dropped a bunt down the third base line that forced an errant throw, allowing the pinch runner Blanks to score and Riddick to go all the way to third.

The win on the mound went to Saugerties’ Dalton Dahley (Pikeville), who improved to 1-1 with an inning of relief in which he allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out two. The loss went to Kyle Smith (NC State) who was charged with a blown save. Matt Wojciak (St. Joseph’s (ME)) picked up his second save of the season.

The Mohawks look to bounce back tomorrow night at Shuttleworth Park against the Albany Dutchmen at 6:35 p.m. The Stallions have now won four in-a-row and look to extend the streak Wednesday night when they host the Glens Falls Dragons at 6:35 p.m.
