Mohawks shutout Stallions for 8th straight win

By Jon Sargalis

Box Score

The Amsterdam Mohawks (12-3) won their eighth game in a row with their second shutout victory of the season. The Mohawks defeated the Saugerties Stallions (5-11) on Friday by a score of 5-0 at Cantine Memorial Field behind a strong pitching performance by Zach Logue (Kentucky).

Logue (3-0) stands alone as the PGCBL leader in wins as he went 6 innings allowing 4 hits with 2 walks and struck out 3. Christian Maldonado (FMCC) pitched the seventh and eighth innings allowing just a single hit and Kyle Smith (NC State) shut the door in the ninth without allowing a base runner.

Scott Manea (NC State) led the way offensively as he was the only Mohawks batter with multiple hits. He belted an RBI double in the second inning and hit a solo home run in the sixth.

The Mohawks got off to a fast start by scoring 3 runs in the second inning off Saugerties starter Micah Riddick (SUNY Ulster). Gage West (Florida State) led off the inning with a walk and after a stolen base and a Brendan Tracy ground out, the Mohawks followed with 3 straight doubles. Scott Manea doubled home West to make it 1-0. Handsome Monica (Arizona) doubled home Manea to make it 2-0 and Kyle Dean (BYU) doubled home Monica to make it 3-0.

In the fifth inning Macy Holdsworth (Indiana) led off and was hit by the pitch, he later scored on a single by his Indiana teammate Craig Dedelow to make it 4-0. Scott Manea’s home run in the sixth made it 5-0 as that concluded the scoring.

Micah Riddick (0-1) suffered the loss by allowing the 3 runs in second inning. He was replaced in the third by Justin Emmerling (Henderson State) who allowed 1 run over the next 3 innings, but it wouldn’t make a difference as the Mohawks pitching staff already had more than enough run support.

The Mohawks return home on Saturday to face the Albany Dutchmen at 6:35 PM. It’s Fireworks Night sponsored by Rick’s RoBo Car Wash, Amsterdam Print Night, National Vanilla Milkshake Day, NE Parent and Child Society Night, Lanzis Restaruants Night, Haircuts for Charity Night sponsored by Bella Vita Salon and our Baseball Buddies will be from Duanesburg, Northville and Mayfield Little League's.
