The Amsterdam Mohawks bounced back from Wednesday night’s loss to beat the Saugerties Stallions 7-3 on Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park.
Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) led the team going 2-for-2 with a single and hit his third home run in as many days. Tracy also had three RBIs, a run scored, and seven assists playing at third base.
Saugerties was led by Clint Hardy (Georgia Regents), who went 3-for-4 with a single, double, triple and scored all three runs for the Stallions.
Saugerties scored first in the top of the second when Hardy singled and advanced to third on a double by John Giakis (Fairleigh Dickinson) before scoring on a Nick Russo (New Haven) ground out. The Mohawks answered in the bottom half when Tyler Kirkpatrick (Marist) reached on a fielder’s choice and scored two batter later on Macy Holdsworth’s (Indiana) single to make it 1-1. The Stallions took a 2-1 lead on Hardy’s solo home run to left in the 4th off Amsterdam starter Zach Logue (Kentucky).
Amsterdam’s offense came through in the bottom of the 5th. With two out and one on, Hunter Tackett (Auburn) singled. Scott Manea (NC State) followed with a two-RBI double that barely landed in fair territory in right field. Then, Tracy homered to right field to make it 5-2 Mohawks. The Stallions got one back in the 6th when Hardy tripled and scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. The Mohawks got the run back when Handsome Monica (Arizona) scored on a squeeze play with Drew Freedman (Wake Forest). Amsterdam added one more run in the 8th when Craig Dedelow (Indiana) scored on Tracy’s bases loaded walk with two outs to make it 7-3 Amsterdam.
Logue picked up his PGCBL-leading fourth win of the season (4-0). The loss went to Phil Zdanowski (St. Rose), who dropped to 0-1.
Amsterdam stays at home on Friday night when they host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 6:35 p.m. at Shuttleworth Park. Saugerties will look to bounce back against the Glens Falls Dragons at Cantine Memorial Field in Saugerties at 6:35 p.m. on Friday.
