Box Score

Riley Mahan’s (Kentucky) solo home run in the bottom of the first was all the Mohawks needed as they beat the Adirondack Trail Blazers 4-0 on Friday night at Shuttleworth Park.

Mahan finished the night going 2-for-4 with a home run, single, two runs, and an RBI. Fernando Guerrero (Marshall) and Tyler Smith (Canisius) combined to allow just seven Trail Blazer hits, walked one, and struck out ten. Adirondack was led offensively by Kyle Walker (Rutgers) and Chris Kwitzer (Buffalo) who both went 2-for-4.

Amsterdam was on the board in the opening frame when Mahan took the first offering from Adirondack starter Will Jahn (Northeastern) and smacked it over the left field fence. The Mohawks added a run in the bottom of the fifth. Gage West (Florida State) singled with one out, followed by Aidan McDermott’s (St. John’s) single to advance him. Macy Holdsworth (Indiana) answered with an RBI double to score West. The Mohawks tallied one more run in the bottom of the eighth on a bases-loaded RBI walk by Justin Yurchak (Wake Forest/Binghamton) to put Amsterdam up 3-0.

Guerrero improved to 4-1 on the season after going seven scoreless innings and allowed just five hits while striking out eight. The loss was charged to Jahn to dropped to 1-1. Smith picked up his second save of the season after going two innings out of the bullpen, allowing two hits, walking one, and striking out two.

With the win, the Mohawks improved to 25-6 on the season and have won eight straight contests. The Trail Blazers dropped to 11-19. Amsterdam will look to continue the streak Saturday night at Dunn Memorial Field when they play the PGCBL West-leading Elmira Pioneers at 7:05 p.m. Adirondack will travel to Murnane Field to play the Utica Brewers Saturday night at 6:35 p.m.
