Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Amsterdam Mohawks (26-7) bounced back from a loss to Elmira on Saturday with a convincing 6-0 win at East Field over the Glens Falls Dragons (17-17). Amsterdam scored a pair of runs in the second inning and two more in the third to take charge early and never looked back.
Amsterdam took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Scott Manea (NC State) singled to start the rally. Tyler Kirkpatrick (Marist) followed up Manea with a single of his own, and Craig Dedelow (Indiana) doubled to the right-center field gap to pick up a pair of RBI's to get the Mohawks out to a two run lead.
Amsterdam increased their lead in the top of the third, taking advantage of a pair of fielding errors by the Dragons and getting an RBI single from Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) to make it 4-0.
The Mohawks tacked on a run in the top of the fifth with a two out rally to make it 5-0. Tracy singled and Handsome Monica (Arizona) reached via an error. Manea singled to center to drive in Tracy, but Monica was cut down at the plate after a dead on throw from Oscar Rodriguez (St. Thomas) and an outstanding tag from catcher Miguel Presno (Flagler).
Amsterdam added a run in the eighth after Monica got his first hit of the game, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on an RBI fly out by Kirkpatrick.
Amsterdam starter Brad Schaenzer (Kentucky) went six innings to get the win. Schaenzer allowed just three hits while not giving up a run. He struck out six, while walking just two. A trio of Mohawk relief pitchers Christian Maldonado (Fulton-Montgomery CC), Tyler Smith (Canisius), and Kyle Smith (NC State) came in to wrap up the victory.
Alex Yarem (Campbell) took the loss for Glens Falls.
Manea was 2 for 3 for Amsterdam, while Tracy added a pair of hits. Dedelow had a pair of RBIs.
Tyler Phillips (Herkimer CC) was 2 for 3 at the plate to lead Glens Falls.
