Box Score

The Amsterdam Mohawks rocked Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs’s starting pitcher Dylan Angelo (Southern Vermont College) for four home runs in the first two innings at Shuttleworth Park on Wednesday night. Riley Mahan (Kentucky) and Hunter Tackett (Auburn) each hit one in the first inning. Kyle Dean (BYU) hit one in the second inning, and Riley Mahan hit another shortly thereafter.

Both of Mahan’s homeruns cleared the arcade house behind the right field wall, and went swimming in the creek that runs behind the park. They were Mahan’s second and third home runs of the season. He finished the night with 2-for-3 with 2 homeruns, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored.

Colin Hawk (Indianapolis) had the only extra-base hit for the Diamond Dawgs. He tripled in the top of the seventh inning, and subsequently scored when Malcolm Kelsey (St. John Fisher College) scorched one 5-hole on Mohawks 3B Justin Yurchack (Binghamton).

The Mohawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 1st inning on Mahan’s first home run. After Yurchak grounded out, Hunter Tackett hit a solo home run deep to left field.

With two outs in the 2nd inning, Kyle Dean hit his first home run of the season to make it 3-0.  After Drew Freedman (Wake Forest) forced a full count and walked to continue the inning, Mahan took the first pitch of his second at-bat deep over the right field wall to make it 5-0.

The Mohawks added another run in the third inning on an RBI groundout by Handsome Monica.

The Diamond Dawgs scored their only run of the game in the top of the seventh inning, when Colin Hawk tripled off of Christian Maldonado (Fulton Montgomery CC), and then scored on an error by Justin Yurchak.

The Mohawks got the run back in the bottom portion of the inning on an RBI fielder’s choice by Hunter Tackett.

Zach Logue (Kentucky) struck out six in six strong innings to earn his seventh win of the year, which ties a an Amsterdam single-season record held by four other pitchers. Dylan Angelo took the loss for Mohawk Valley.
