The Amsterdam Mohawks rallied to beat the Utica Blue Sox, 7-4, in a rain-shortened contest at Shuttleworth Park on Monday night. With the win, the Mohawks have now won five of their last six.

Joe Genord (South Florida) led the Mohawks with a 3-for-3 night. Genord slugged out two singles, a double, scored once, and drove in two. Tyler Ungerland (St. Rose) provided the difference with a three-RBI triple, part of his 1-for-3 night.

Amsterdam starter Austin Keen (Kentucky) and Utica starter Nolan Freeman (Mercyhurst North East) matched each other through the first three innings. Amsterdam finally broke through in the bottom of the fourth.

Nick Patten (Delaware) led off with a double to the left field corner. After an Andrew Rouse (Marist) walk, Genord singled, driving in Patten and advancing Rouse to third. Dan Maynard (Maryland) walked to load the bases and Eric Downey (The College at Brockport) grounded into a double play that allowed Rouse to score, making it 2-0.

Utica responded in the top of the sixth. Franklin Jennings (Central Connecticut State) reached with a one-out single and stole second. Joe Spitaleri (LIU Post) walked and the pair executed a double steal of second and third. Taylor Olmstead (Southern New Hampshire) singled to drive in both runners and tie the game. Olmstead advanced to second on the play at home. Alex Ralph (Bellarmine) followed with an RBI single to put the Blue Sox on top 3-2.

The Mohawks answered in the bottom half. Rouse reached after being hit by a pitch with one out. Genord doubled to drive in Rouse and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Maynard singled to bring home Genord, putting the Mohawks up 4-3. After a Downey walk and a single by Brett Kinneman (NC State) loaded the bases, Ungerland cleared them all with a triple to right center, extending the lead to 7-3.

In the top of the seventh, Justin Segers (Ancilla College) was hit by a pitch with two outs and was followed by a Jennings double. Mike Warren (Andrew College) provided an RBI single to make the final tally before the rain began falling and forced the umpires to call the game during the bottom of the seventh.

On the mound, Mike Bonaiuto (Fairfield) picked up his first win despite allowing four runs on four hits and a walk in 1.2 innings of relief. The loss was charged to Brandon Romero (Marshall), who also pitched 1.2 innings of relief in which he allowed five runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out 2.

The Mohawks look to make it six wins in seven tries on Tuesday night when they host the Albany Dutchmen at Shuttleworth Park at 6:35 p.m. Utica will look to bounce back Tuesday night when they travel to Veterans Memorial Park to play the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at 6:35 p.m.
