The Amsterdam Mohawks won their fourth straight game, defeating the Adirondack Trail Blazers 4-3 in comeback fashion on Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park.

Griffin Roberts (Wake Forest) kept the Trail Blazers at bay in his second start of the season, but did not factor in the decision. Roberts went six innings, gave up four hits, one run (unearned), and struck out nine.

Chris LaVorgna (Franklin Pierce) put Amsterdam on the board in the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run to left field, his first of the season. The long ball proved useful to the Mohawks again in the bottom of the fourth when Joe Genord (South Florida) led off with a solo shot to center field, his fourth of the season.

Adirondack got on the board in the fifth when Chuck Hooker (Alderson Broaddus) led off with a double and advanced to third on an error by the right fielder. Two batters later, Hooker scored on Brett Simon’s (LaSalle) RBI groundout, closing the gap to 2-1.

The score held until the eighth. In the top half, Donald Goodson (Prairie State College) led off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. One pitch later, Goodson swiped third base. With Lorenzo Calderon (Marymount) on first after a walk, Chase Haney (Florida State) made a would-be pickoff throw to first and Calderon managed to survive the rundown and take second while Goodson took home to tie the game. Kyle Cunningham (St. John’s) laced an RBI single to right and advanced to third on another error by the right fielder.

Trailing 3-2, the Mohawks offense responded. Genord led off with a double to left and was pinch run for by Eric Downey (The College at Brockport). After a Nick Patten (Delaware) walk, Brett Kinneman (NC State) sacrificed both runners to second and third. Andrew Rouse (Marist) put the Mohawks back on top with a single to center, scoring Downey and Patten.

On the mound, Haney picked up the win after doing two innings in relief. The sidewinder allowed one hit, two runs (one earned), walked two, and struck out two. The loss went to Don McWreath (Seton Hill), who pitched 1.1 innings, allowed two hits, two runs, and walked two. Tim Naughton (NC State) picked up his second save of the season after setting Adirondack down in order in the ninth.

The Mohawks will look to keep the winning streak alive when they host the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs at Shuttleworth Park on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Adirondack will travel to Victor High School to play the Victor RailRiders on Friday at 5 p.m.
