Frank Powers Mohawks to a 4-2 Win

Box Score

LITTLE FALLS, NY—This year’s edition of the Mohawk Valley Diamond Dawgs has a flair for the dramatic.

How else do you explain their Patriot Bank Cup series with the Amsterdam Mohawks going to a seventh game after being up three games to one.

Tyler Frank hit a two-run home run that proved to be the difference, as Amsterdam sent their series with the Diamond Dawgs to a deciding game seven back at Shuttleworth Park with a 4-2 victory over Mohawk Valley Saturday night at Veteran’s Memorial Park in Little Falls.

Two straight doubles by Garrett Kelly (Hollister, CA/UC Davis) and Tanner Wessling (Kent, WA/University of Tennessee-Martin) in the third would score Kelly and opened up the scoring for Mohawk Valley. The Diamond Dawgs would extend their lead on a Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Wagner College) sacrifice fly that would score Kelly.

The Mohawks would tie up the score quickly in the fourth on a two-run home run by Tyler Frank (Loxahatchee, FL/Florida Atlantic University) that would score himself and Chris Givin (Castle Rock, CO/Xavier University). Tristen Carranza (El Centro, CA/New Mexico State University) would give the Mohawks the lead on an RBI single that would score Nick Patten (Butler, PA/University of Delaware).

Austin Botello (Galveston, TX/New Mexico State University) would double the Amsterdam lead in the sixth on an RBI single in the sixth that would score Dan Maynard (Burnt Hills, NY/University of Maryland).

That would be all Amsterdam starter Paul Milto (Greenwood, Indiana/Indiana University) and reliever Chase Haney (Winter Garden, FL/Florida State University) would need, as they would hold the Diamond Dawgs to two hits the rest of the way to close the book on Mohawk Valley (22-17).

Milto would get the win for Amsterdam (29-14), while Haney would get the save. Mike Appel (Orange, CT/Central Connecticut State University) would get the loss for Mohawk Valley.

The Diamond Dawgs will end their two-game home stand tomorrow night, when the Newark Pilots head to Veteran’s Memorial Park. The Mohawks will head to East Field in Glens Falls on Sunday to take on the Dragons.
