Box Score

The Amsterdam Mohawks used a five –run third inning to pace themselves past the Onondaga Flames 12-1 on Thursday night at Shuttleworth Park. This marked the first game in franchise history for the visiting Flames.

Julian Gallup (Niagara) led the Mohawks going 2-for-3 with a double, single, and two runs scored. Ben Anderson (Binghamton) took the hill and pitched well in his debut. The righty went four innings and gave up just one run on four hits. Anderson struck out five and walked one.

The Flames jumped out to an early lead when Camillo Spinoso (LeMoyne) slugged a one-out, solo home run to left field. It would prove to be the only lead the for the Flames and it vanished quickly.

In the bottom half of the inning, Gallup led off with a double before scoring two batters later on Eric Rivera’s (Florida Atlantic) single. Liam Wilson (Canisius) singled with two away and moved to third on back-to-back walks. With the bases loaded, Alex Kashgerian (Hudson Valley CC) reached on an infield single that brought in Wilson to make it 2-1.

The Mohawks would take advantage of two walks, a hit batsman, two singles, and an error to plate five runs in the fifth to widen the gap to 7-1. In the fourth, Brendan Coffey (Sacred Heart) roped a bases loaded double that cleared the bases to make it 10-1.

In the top of the fifth, the Mohawks plated two more runs with the help of two errors in the field to make it 12-1. The win on the hill went to Thomas Lane (Boston College) as Anderson did not go the required five inning minimum. The loss went to Zach Kemp (Wells College), who dropped to 0-1.

The Mohawks travel to Veterans Memorial Park to face the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs on Friday at 6:35 p.m. The Flames will look to bounce back on Friday when they host the Oneonta Outlaws at 7 p.m.
