Mohawks walk it off, beat Geneva 6-5

Brendan Coffey (Sacred Heart) went 2-4 with 2 runs, including a walk-off RBI single in the 9th to give the Amsterdam Mohawks the win over the Geneva Red Wings at Shuttleworth Park on Thursday night.

Julian Gallup (Niagra) went 2-3 with 2 RBI singles, and Liam Wilson (Canisuis) belted his 1st home run of the season to lead the Mohawks.  Trustin Riley (Tampa) went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Geneva in the loss.             

In the 1st, Jake Lyle gave Geneva an early 2-0 lead with a 2 run bomb to left field.  Amsterdam would tie it up in the bottom of the 2nd on RBI singles by Alex Kashgerian (Hudson Valley C.C.) and Gallup.

Geneva would regain the lead on an RBI fielder’s choice in the 3rd, and extend it in the 4th on an error, bringing the score to 4-2.

Amsterdam would cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the 4th on an RBI fielder’s choice by Cameron Collett (Marshall) before Wilson would park a fastball over the left field wall in the bottom of the 5th to knot the game at 4.

An RBI double by Riley in the top of the 6th would once again put the Red Wings on top before Gallup’s 2nd RBI single for Amsterdam in the bottom half of the inning would tie the game at 5.

The score would stay that way until the bottom of the 9th, in which the Mohawks loaded the bases with nobody out before Coffey slapped an 0-1 pitch down the 3rd base line to give the Mohawks the win.

Nick DeBrino (Canisius) gets the win for the Mohawks after 2 innings of scoreless relief.  Andy Reed (Elmira) took the loss for the Red Wings.

Amsterdam is back at Shuttleworth Park Friday night to take on the Massachusetts Cages in a non-PGCBL exhibition game.  The first pitch is set for 6:35 PM.

Geneva will be back home Friday night at McDonough Park, taking on the Newark Pilots.  The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
