Mohawks win sloppy game in Utica, 8-6

Amsterdam handed Utica their fourth loss in a row in a sloppy game of baseball on Saturday night. The final score ended up being 8-6 Amsterdam and the Mohawks out hit Utica 9-5.

The Blue Sox would get an early 6-2 lead when they loaded the bases in the 5 th inning and got five runs thanks to five walks and an error in the inning. But the Mohawks would fight back to regain the lead 8-6 thanks to a three run spot in both the top of the 7 th and 8 th inning. That would stand as the final score line.

Alex Kashgarian powered the Mohawks offense going 2-4 with two RBI’s. Taylor Olmstead put in another solid performance at home for Utica going 3-5 at the plate.

Both starting pitchers got no decisions. Lane went four and a third innings allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts for Amsterdam. Tietgen went seven innings allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks with three strikeouts. However, Knapek got the win for Amsterdam going two innings of shutout ball, and DeBrino came in and picked up the save in the ninth putting the Sox away 1-2- 3. Dolan was booked with the loss for Utica.

With the win Amsterdam improves to 4-1 on the season, they travel to Saugerties on Sunday for a 7:05 PM game.

With the loss Utica drops four straight and falls to 3-4 on the season, they remain at home as they welcome Jamestown for another 6:35PM game.
