Strong Second and Ninth Innings Propel Mohawks Past Stallions

Box Score

Saugerties, NY- Trying to regain their winning ways, the Saugerties Stallions hosted the defending champion Amsterdam Mohawks on Sunday night.  Saugerties fell down early and were never able to fully recover.

Stallions starting pitcher, Nick Alvarado (Illinois State), started the game and only lasted 1 1-3 innings, leaving due to injury.

Stallions opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning off of a Matt Feinstein (Dartmouth) single scoring center fielder Nick Campana (Hartford).  But the Mohawks came back in the top of the second to score four runs off of Brady Peterson (Stetson).

Saugerties came back to score one in the bottom of the third off of a wild pitch to cut the deficit to two runs.  Momentum came back to the Stallions when a key double play by Stallions first baseman Jack Gonzalez (Stetson) grabbed a hard hit groundball, stepping on first and firing home to get the runner sliding into home.

The Stallions came within one run in the bottom of the eighth off of two wild pitches by the Mohawks.

Kelly Killeen (Franklin Pierce) came into pitch for Saugerties in the top half of the ninth and could not find control of the ball, totaling three walks to load the bases and allowing three hits, giving the Mohawks a 10-4 lead.

Saugerties would come back in the bottom of the ninth to score three runs which wasn’t enough as they fell to the Mohawks 10-7.

The Mohawks and Stallions play their next game on Monday, June 12, at 6:35 in Amsterdam.
